On October 25, 1978, the Abilene Chapter met at the
home of Shana Norton for a harpwarming party. Ann
Mattern, Barbara Don Brooks and Shana Norton
played.
On November 21, 1978, the chapter met at the home
of Mrs. Adrian Allen for a preview of Shana Norton's
recital.
DALLAS

The February 11th meeting was a luncheon buffet at
Brookhaven Country Club. A short program of Irish
music was sung and played by Mary Emily Mitchell.
Henning Christiansen was the guest speaker.
The annual Student Harp Recital is scheduled for
April 21, 1:00 P.M., at Whittle Music Co.
WICHITA
President, David Dillon, 1938 Marion, Wichita, Kansas.
The Wichita Chapter was pleased to host Ms. Kathy
Kienzle in a Young Artist Series Concert on October 29.
Following the concert a dinner was held in her honor at
the home of Nancy Hercher.
The fall meeting was held on November 4 at the home
of Mary Bickford. The program was presented by Van
Rey Morgan, Eileen Jones and Ron Mason, all Wichita
State University students.
LOS ANGELES

Our November 19th meeting featured Carmen Carroll
who was assisted by violinist Stefan Krayk, flutist
Toby Caplan, and organist Arthur Buckingham. The
meeting fell on the 150th anniversary of the death of
Schubert. As a tribute to the composer the program
opened with Schubert's Ave Maria. Also on the program
were the Serenade #10 by Persichetti, Entr'acte by
Ibert, and Fantasie by Saint-Saens.
January's Board Meeting was followed by a luncheon
at the Brown Derby Restaurant in Hollywood honoring
Clifford Woolridge who is leaving us and moving to
London.
At the January 28th meeting Rebecca Reinhard
Foreman performed Siciliana by Respighi-Grandjany,
Sequenzen by Holliger, and Impromptu Caprice by
Pierne. Amy Shulman performed a group of Faur~
songs and Three Sephardic Songs by Tedesco with
soprano Joan Collopy; and the Berceuse by Faur~ and
The Fog is Lifting by Neilsen with flutist Dave Sherr.
We look forward to a recital by Carrol McLaughlin
who will perform at our spring scholarship concert in
May. On March 18th there will be a Champagne Brunch
at the home of Lillian Macedo to raise money for the
Young Artist's FUJ1d and the Harp Literature Committee.
In May we will cap off the season with a pot-luck
dinner at the home of Dorothy Victor.
SUMMER/ 1979
SANTA CLARA VALLEY
President, Christine Holvick, 34 Barry Lane, Atherton,
California 94025.
The season began with our first meeting centering on
the topics "Tension in Performance" and "Psychology
of the Harpist". We were honored to have Tiah Foster,
M.D., and Margaret Osmond-Smith, nurse in mental
health, speak on these subjects. Also at this meeting
President Christine Holvick shared her experiences
from the International Harp Week of summer '77 including
a recorded concert performance of Hymns and
Conversations for 28 Harps by Heppener.
At our Spring meeting Anne Adams was the guest
speaker. She spoke about her teacher Marcel Grandjany,
and gave us an insight into his life, his personality,
and his music. Having studied both the hand techniques
of Salzedo and Grandjany, she was in the interesting
position to speak comparatively of both. We were also
fortunate to have her perform some of Grandjany's
compositions.
EUGENE

This Fall was very busy with Harp Festival '78, sponsored
by the Harp Society and directed by Sally Maxwell.
The fifteen harpists performed to a capacity crowd
at the University of Oregon concert hall. We were happy
to have Jack Nebergall in Eugene for an informal
workshop and performance in November. In January
we were fm:tunate to have Henning Christiansen from
Lyon-Healy give a two-day harp repair workshop.
Spring plans include a workshop by Mildred Dilling
in April and a Young Artist Concert by Linda Warren in
May.
SEATTLE

Our Christmas meeting program featured our
younger student members, Laura Hall, Amy Griffin,
Michelle Bradford, Jeanine Johnson, Beth Wooster,
Wendy Peterson, Lydia Strom, Andrea Mickelson,
Bryndis Jonsson, and Ellie McIntosh, playing seasonal
works. In February we were fortunate to hear Michelle
Brennan and Bronn Journey perform some pop harp
selections and share the experiences they had while attending
the "Jazz and Pop Music for Harp Festival" in
Santa Barbara last summer.. Pat Jaeger also introduced
the Wilfred Smith pedal harp to our chapter and
described its background.
Our April program will feature performances by
students who have completed both phases of the Music
Education Auditions. We were happy to have 32
students participating in the first phase in February.
Our adjudicator was Beverly Statler. There will also be
a video-taping opportunity for the members this spring,
arranged by Pat Wooster, which we think will be very
helpful in improving stage presence and performance in
general.
