around the villages — 6 The Parish Magazine - April 2024 27 Year Inner Wheel Black Tie Celebration 75 members and guests of the Inner Wheel Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh relished the chance to dress up for the black tie dinner held at Bearwood Lakes Golf Club in celebration of the centenary of Inner Wheel. Guests were welcomed with a drink and enjoyed the music of harpist Marion England. A delicious meal was followed by entertainment from the Belle Canto Trio with songs through the decades since the 1920’s — the year that Inner Wheel was formed. Inner Wheel District 9 Chairman, Hilary Tindall, spoke about the 100 years of Inner Wheel in this country, and Reading Maiden Erlegh President, Margaret Adams, spoke about what the club had achieved since 2002 and the many local, national and international charities that have been supporting by a variety of events the club has organised, including raising approximately £100,000. https://www.innerwheelrme.org Planning Your Traditional Wedding? Jenny has recently had six of her artworks displayed at the Mall Galleries in London as part of the successful Pastel Society Exhibition. She is currently working on a book with other contributors due out this autumn called Beyond the Arch which is a history of Reading Old Cemetery at Cemetery Junction. Her work can be seen at: https://www.jennyhalstead.co.uk Wanted: female voices Charvil's Project Singers has a few spaces available in its ladies' choir which meets for rehearsals on Monday evenings from 8-9.30pm at Charvil Village Hall. The choir's summer term project is 'Chocolate Box'. They will be working towards a concert on 7 July, which is World Chocolate Day! Songs will include Lollipop, I can't help myself sugar pie, Hotta chocolatta, Pure imagination, and When I take my sugar to tea. The term ends with a local restaurant meal on 8 July. The Project Singers are a small, hard-working, group of ladies who sing in three parts. They are looking for singers who are enthusiastic and committed.
