Diddy
What??
BY RELUCTANT GENIUS
Recently there was an FBI raid on Sean (a.k.a. “P Diddy”) Combs’ houses. While no
charges have been formally filed, rumor has it that some significant happenings in his
past, including sex trafficking among others, will be filed in the near future. In a time
when the “Me Too” movement has canceled or brought down
some of the most powerful celebrities, the question is, will he be
the next one in line? It seems that quite a few celebrities have
chimed in and have talked about his potential wrongdoings. If
any of it is true, it will be the downfall of perhaps one of the
greatest music stories of rags to riches in recent history. Here’s a
little more information on this month’s cover artist.
Sean Combs, also known as Puff Daddy, P. Diddy or Diddy is a
prominent figure in the music industry who experienced both
great success and significant setbacks throughout his career.
Combs rose to fame in the 1990s as a rapper, producer and
entrepreneur. He founded Bad Boy Records, which became a powerhouse in the Hip-
Hop and R&B scene, launching the careers of artists like The Notorious B.I.G. and
Mase.
Combs expanded his empire beyond
music, venturing into fashion, acting and
television. He achieved massive success
with his Sean John clothing line and Ciroc
Vodka partnership. However, his career
was marred by legal issues and
controversies, including a highly
publicized trial for gun possession.
Despite his accomplishments, Sean Combs faced financial challenges and struggled to
maintain relevance in an ever-changing industry. His music output declined and his
business ventures faced setbacks. The rise and fall of Sean Combs serves as a
cautionary tale of the highs and lows of fame and fortune in the entertainment world.

THE MOVIE REVIEW
BY PAUL MARINO
D'name's Paulie. I'm Press, StaticLiveMag, New Smyrna Beach: “A peaceful place, or so it looks from Space. A closer look reveals New Smyrna's
face. Full of hope, full of Grace: The United States. But afraid we may lay our home to waste!” I've lived in New Smyrna for a little over seven
years now, but started coming here in the Summer of 2000. I recall sitting in an oceanfront restaurant, looking east. I said to Cindy, “Paint it
with a skin of sky, brush in some clouds and sea. Call it home for you and me.” We walked out onto the beach and put our feet in “that shining
sheet of blue, I knew I'd call home”. So we stopped to talk to “strangers stopping strangers, just to shake their hands”. We began to meet &
befriend the local servers & bartenders & bands. What a delightfully artistic, intellectual, welcoming, eclectic, historic & joyous town! Strolling
along Flagler, just east of the North Causeway, we noticed what was then a tiny, beautiful banyan tree. “Let it be known, there is a fountain, that
was not made by the hands of man!” Came back 5 months later. Never in a calendar year after 2000 did we vacation here less than three times,
sometimes more. And those first four, before 9-11, were glorious. After 9/11/01, when we came here in December that year, New Smyrna, like
all vacation paradises, was a ghost town. The events of 9-11, they started the change in America; started the division. If you didn't support The
Iraq War, which of course, turned out to be ill-founded, you were not “proud to be an American”, an assumption that is, on its face, false.
Diversity of opinions, discussion and debate are the pillars of America. 1A, as I like to call it, protects free speech AND the Fourth Estate, The
PRESS: Freedom of the press. We ARE the people, not the enemy of the people as “the politicians throwing stones” would have you believe.
They think, to a man, to a woman...all of them...that their job is to divide us! IT IS NOT! And now the whole country, the whole “bright blue ball”,
is at the onset of a Cold Uncivil War. Neither New Smyrna nor the rest of the world is above it. I'm here to tell you, it doesn't have to be this way.
We have to get back to when we would stop & talk and LISTEN to one another: “Strangers stopping strangers, just to shake their hands.” You've
been forewarned! D'name's Paulie. I'm Press. “Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free. It's dizzying, the possibilities.”
In Civil War, Alex Garland takes this impending possibility, the possibility that we may find ourselves in a civil war here in America, to that
dystopian, existential end. But while the film takes place in America, implicitly, the entire world is thrown into the mayhem. America is divided
into four factions, with the bulk of the nation still called the United States of America. They are loyal to its authoritarian, dictatorial POTUS (Nick
Offerman), serving in at least his 3rd term. There is chaos on the streets everywhere. The film opens in NYC where renowned Reuters
photojournalist Lee Smith and her writer colleague Joel (Kirsten Dunst & Wager Moura) meet young aspiring photojournalist Jessie (Cailee
Spaeny). Lee and Joel are planning to head through dystopia to Washington to interview the President. The USA is under the siege of the
Western Forces, California & Texas. Jessie and Lee's mentor, Sammie (Stephen McKinley Henderson), worm their way into Joel's “PRESS” SUV.
Lee knows Sammie is too old & Jessie too young for the arduous journey from NYC to DC, via Pittsburgh. I-95 is impassable. There is no gas. The
U.S dollar is worthless. Sammie only wants a lift to Charlottesville VA, and Lee will not let Jessie go any further than that. Virginia is part of the
USA, but the Western Forces' base is there; their military is heading north to DC.
As of this writing, Civil War is still in theaters. An important MUST SEE! You've been forewarned! Dystopian societies suck! It doesn't have to be
this way. D'name's Paulie. I'm Press. “Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free. It's dizzying, the possibilities.” 4 Stars. Best film of
2024 so far!
OFF
FOCUS
ON LOCALS
Every once in a while there comes a young talent that seems to stand out more than others.
We all know how challenging, and difficult it is being in the music business. Sometimes pure
talent just isn’t enough. It takes hard work, consistency, and a little luck to shine, and rise
above. This month Focus on Locals proves that sticking with what you know best can
eventually work out. From being a child prodigy guitarist, to working in the rock ‘n’ roll
industry, and ultimately finding a home in the blues world, Dyer has proven even at an early
age he has a very bright future. Here’s a little more about this months feature artist.
Dyer Davis is an American singer / guitarist, who
released his debut album for WildRoots Records in
February. He spent the last 8 years of his young life as a
rock artist, recently departing from the band Rubber
Soul Child. Now at 23 he has returned to the music that
first inspired him to become a musician. As a child his
father also, a musician, turned him on to the music of
the 60’s and 70’s. The artists that spoke to him the most
were the blues-based rockers, especially the early Jeff
Beck records featuring Rod Stewart. This instilled in him
the importance of the blues as the key foundation of the
music he was drawn to. There’s no doubt there’s a
bright future ahead for this young man so make sure to
catch one of his shows to see what everyone is talking
about.
