decorating service, a Union soldier reenactment, with a twenty-one-gun salute in tribute to fallen soldiers, a historical

Park. The evening begins with a trip on the St. Marks River, paddling through the majestic confluence where two springfed 

rivers meet. Then, headlong onto the Wakulla River under the glow of the setting sun. This is the lower Wakulla where 

the river is wide with expansive views and abundant wildlife. We’ll talk about nature, history, and the Cosmos while we 

paddle up the river as the near-full moon begins to rise. She will light the way as we turn to drift with the current, back

It’s time to go ‘Over the Top’ for pizza 

OVER THE TOP

Hello, my over-the-toppers! Apologies 

for my sudden disappearance 

last week. I promise it wasn’t a case 

of “it’s you, not me.” It was totally 

me. No, really. It was me. 

But once again, I’m back — and oh, 

do I have something for you to bring 

up to your boss (or, if you’re the boss, 

bring it up to yourself). 

You all know about the random 

and silly national holidays or celebrations, 

right? 

Now, some events are very silly 

(like “National Thank God It’s Monday 

Day,” because who likes Mondays?), 

and others are worth mentioning. 

(And no, National Thank 

God It’s Monday Day isn’t one. Let it 

float back into the abyss of unnecessary 

things.) 

One of those seemingly silly but 

significant holidays is National Pizza 

Party Day. 

Did someone say Pizzzzzzzzzaaaaaaaa?? 

Who’s with me? I’m all 

in for pizza! 

Let’s take a trip down memory 

lane. Remember those pizza parties 

in elementary school when different 

holidays approached? The times 

when you and your classmates were 

assigned to bring in all the sugary 

treats, juice and sodas, cheese dip 

and, of course, PIZZA! Those were 

the days, right? 

Elementary school, oh, how I miss 

thee…. 

But who says old-school pizza parties 

are only for kids? Sure, the activities 

from those elementary school 

parties might not be considered 

“grown-up” fun. But everything else, 

especially the FOOD, is fair game. 

Let’s bring back the joy of pizza parties, 

this time with a grown-up twist! 

It’s common for employers to host 

a pizza party (imagine boxes of lame, 

limp pizza from some big chain, lined 

up on the table for the whole day) 

instead of — you know — what the 

employees really want. (Like, hello? 

A raise to compete with the cost of 

living, anyone?) 

On the other hand, I can never say 

“no” to a pizza party. 

So, I say we should all inform our 

bosses that tomorrow, Friday, May 

17, 2024, is National Pizza Party Day. 

For all of you fancy-dancy folks who 

ARE the boss, treat your employees 

to at least a good pizza party without 

the need for it to be a holiday or a 

profit increase. 

I mean, it’s a Friday — and as 

soon as the shift is over, the weekend 

starts. Why not use the last hour 

of the workday to end the week on 

a good note with pizza, cheese and 

other dips, sugary snacks and good 

drinks (non-alcoholic, of course; no 

drinking and driving!)? When employees 

feel appreciated and see an 

effort from the boss to show their 

appreciation, they receive more from 

the employees.

As a matter of fact … excuse me, 

one-second toppers…. 

To my lovely and wonderful boss, 

who is the bestest, best boss out there, 

CAN WE HAVE A PIZZA PARTY TO- 

MORROW FOR NATIONAL PIZZA 

PARTY DAY? 

I think I softened her up a little bit. 

We’ll see tomorrow. If I don’t have a 

pizza hangover for the weekend, I will 

let you guys know if I succeed. 

Now, I’m going to go and enjoy some 

pizza because I made myself hungry 

for pizza.
