Resurrectional Apolytikion
When You descended unto Death, O Lord,
You who are immortal Life put Hades to
death, by the lightning of Your divinity.
And when You raised the dead from the
netherworld, all the hosts of heaven sang
aloud to You, “O Christ God, Giver of life,
glory to You!”
Apolytikion of St. Catherine
Let us praise the most auspicious bride
of Christ, the divine Katherine, protectress
of Sinai, our aid and our help. For,
she brilliantly silenced the eloquence of
the impious by the sword of the spirit,
and now, crowned as a martyr, she asks
great mercy for all.
Apolytikion of the Church
Ιn giving birth, you did preserve your
virginity; in your dormition you did not
forsake the world O Theotokos. You
were translated onto life, since you were
the Mother of life; And by your intercessions
do you redeem our souls from
death.

Though You went down into the tomb,

ACTS OF THE APOSTLES (6:1-7)
In those days, when the disciples were increasing
in number, the Hellenists murmured
against the Hebrews because their
widows were neglected in the daily distribution.
And the twelve summoned the
body of the disciples and said, "it is not
right that we should give up preaching the
word of God to serve tables. Therefore,
brethren, pick out from among you seven
men of good repute, full of the Spirit and
of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this
duty. But we will devote ourselves to
prayer and to the ministry of the word."
And what they said pleased the whole
multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man
full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and
Philip, and Prochoros, and Nicanor, and
Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaos, a
proselyte of Antioch. These they set before
the apostles, and they prayed and laid
their hands upon them. And the word of
God increased; and the number of the disciples
multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and
a great many of the priests were obedient
to the faith.
ΑΝΑΓΝΩΣΜΑ ΑΠΟ ΤΙΣ
ΠΡΑΞΕΙΣ ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΩΝ (6:1-7)
Ἐν ταῖς ἡμεραῖς ἐκείναις, πληθυνόντων
τῶν μαθητῶν, ἐγένετο γογγυσμὸς τῶν
Ἑλληνιστῶν πρὸς τοὺς Ἑβραίους, ὅτι
παρεθεωροῦντο ἐν τῇ διακονίᾳ τῇ
καθημερινῇ αἱ χῆραι αὐτῶν.
Προσκαλεσάμενοι δὲ οἱ δώδεκα τὸ
πλῆθος τῶν μαθητῶν, εἶπον, Οὐκ ἀρεστόν
ἐστιν ἡμᾶς, καταλείψαντας τὸν λόγον τοῦ
θεοῦ, διακονεῖν τραπέζαις. Ἐπισκέψασθε
οὖν, ἀδελφοί, ἄνδρας ἐξ ὑμῶν
μαρτυρουμένους ἑπτά, πλήρεις πνεύματος
ἁγίου καὶ σοφίας, οὓς καταστήσωμεν ἐπὶ
τῆς χρείας ταύτης. Ἡμεῖς δὲ τῇ προσευχῇ
καὶ τῇ διακονίᾳ τοῦ λόγου
προσκαρτερήσομεν. Καὶ ἤρεσεν ὁ λόγος
ἐνώπιον παντὸς τοῦ πλήθους· καὶ
ἐξελέξαντο Στέφανον, ἄνδρα πλήρης
πίστεως καὶ πνεύματος ἁγίου, καὶ

GOSPEL READING
MARK (15:43-47, 16:1-8)
At that time, Joseph of Arimathea, a respected
member of the council, who was
also himself looking for the kingdom of
God, took courage and went to Pilate, and
asked for the body of Jesus. And Pilate
wondered if he were already dead; and
summoning the centurion, he asked him
whether he was already dead. And when
he learned from the centurion that he was
dead, he granted the body to Joseph. And
he bought a linen shroud, and taking him
down, wrapped him in the linen shroud,
and laid him in a tomb which had been
hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a stone
against the door of the tomb. Mary Magdalene
and Mary the mother of Joses saw
where he was laid.
And when the sabbath was past, Mary
Magdalene, and Mary the mother of
James, and Salome, bought spices, so that
they might go and anoint him. And very
early on the first day of the week they
went to the tomb when the sun had risen.
And they were saying to one another,
"Who will roll away the stone for us from
the door of the tomb?" And looking up,
they saw that the stone was rolled back;
for it was very large. And entering the
tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the
right side, dressed in a white robe; and
they were amazed. And he said to them,
"Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of
Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen,
he is not here; see the place where they
laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter
that he is going before you to Galilee;

Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἐλθὼν Ἰωσὴφ ὁ ἀπὸ
Ἀριμαθαίας, εὐσχήμων βουλευτής, ὃς καὶ
αὐτὸς ἦν προσδεχόμενος τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ
Θεοῦ, τολμήσας εἰσῆλθε πρὸς Πιλᾶτον καὶ
ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ. Ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος
ἐθαύμασεν εἰ ἤδη τέθνηκε, καὶ
προσκαλεσάμενος τὸν κεντυρίωνα
ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν εἰ πάλαι ἀπέθανε· καὶ
γνοὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ κεντυρίωνος ἐδωρήσατο τὸ
σῶμα τῷ Ἰωσήφ. Καὶ ἀγοράσας σινδόνα
καὶ καθελὼν αὐτὸν ἐνείλησε τῇ σινδόνι καὶ
κατέθηκεν αὐτὸν ἐν μνημείῳ, ὃ ἦν
λελατομημένον ἐκ πέτρας, καὶ
προσεκύλισε λίθον ἐπὶ τὴν θύραν τοῦ
μνημείου. Ἡ δὲ Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ
Μαρία Ἰωσῆ ἐθεώρουν ποῦ τίθεται. Καὶ
διαγενομένου τοῦ σαββάτου Μαρία ἡ
Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ Μαρία ἡ τοῦ Ἰακώβου καὶ
Σαλώμη ἠγόρασαν ἀρώματα ἵνα ἐλθοῦσαι
ἀλείψωσιν αὐτόν. Καὶ λίαν πρωῒ τῆς μιᾶς
σαββάτων ἔρχονται ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον,
ἀνατείλαντος τοῦ ἡλίου. Καὶ ἔλεγον πρὸς
ἑαυτάς· Τίς ἀποκυλίσει ἡμῖν τὸν λίθον ἐκ
τῆς θύρας τοῦ μνημείου; Καὶ ἀναβλέψασαι
θεωροῦσιν ὅτι ἀποκεκύλισται ὁ λίθος· ἦν
γὰρ μέγας σφόδρα. Καὶ εἰσελθοῦσαι εἰς τὸ
μνημεῖον εἶδον νεανίσκον καθήμενον ἐν
τοῖς δεξιοῖς, περιβεβλημένον στολὴν
λευκήν, καὶ ἐξεθαμβήθησαν. Ὁ δὲ λέγει
αὐταῖς· μὴ ἐκθαμβεῖσθε· Ἰησοῦν ζητεῖτε
τὸν Ναζαρηνὸν τὸν ἐσταυρωμένον·
ἠγέρθη, οὐκ ἔστιν ὧδε· ἴδε ὁ τόπος ὅπου

there you will see him, as he told you."
And they went out and fled from the
tomb; for trembling and astonishment had
come upon them; and they said nothing to
anyone, for they were afraid.
ἔθηκαν αὐτόν. Ἀλλ᾿ ὑπάγετε εἴπατε τοῖς
μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ τῷ Πέτρῳ ὅτι προάγει
ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν· ἐκεῖ αὐτὸν ὄψεσθε,
καθὼς εἶπεν ὑμῖν. Καὶ ἐξελθοῦσαι ἔφυγον
ἀπὸ τοῦ μνημείου· εἶχε δὲ αὐτὰς τρόμος καὶ
ἔκστασις, καὶ οὐδενὶ οὐδὲν εἶπον· ἐφοβοῦντο
γάρ.

Fr. Anthony’s Thoughts about the Sunday Gospel
The Myrrh Bearing Women
St. Mark 15 (43) 16 (1- 8)
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Throughout the centuries women have struggled to receive a recognizable
place for their service in the Church. Today we commemorate the Myrrh bearing
women. For a good reason they are called Apostles to the Apostles.
Women followed Him everywhere and served him. Mary and Martha where His
good friends. We learn from the Gospels that He visited them very often. The women were
the ones who were standing at the cross when everybody had left Him. The Mother of God
brings the greatest service to the Church. She became the person chosen by God for the incarnation
of the Logos of God, the only Begotten Son who came for the salvation of the
world.
Let us remember that among the Disciples of Christ there were also those who were
not Israelites. For example, the Phoenician woman, who came asking for healing for her
daughter. Jesus said about this woman that no one had as much faith as her even in Israel.
Also, after Pentecost we see many nationalities present who become Christian when Peter
had his famous speech.
There are many wonderful things that male and female disciples did with Him and
for Him. But we also have the negative things that we can see happening among His disciples,
male or female. In today’s reading from the Acts of the Apostles we learn that as the
Christian community was growing there was a conflict between those who were Hellenistic
and those who were of Hebrew descent over the distribution of food.
However, as we can see from the Acts and other events in the history of Christianity
the internal life of the Christians was not always peaceful. Even today there are many problems
in the Church, which is the result of the shortcomings that we have in our lives and in
our characters. The important thing however is that we need to always strive towards becoming
better persons and cultivating an atmosphere of Love around us. For doing so, we
can use two things. Number one is the example of the Myrrh baring women who followed
Christ everywhere. The second is the expression that comes to us from the 4th century.
Acquire the spirit of God and many will be saved around you.

Οι σκέψεις του π. Αντωνίου για το Ευαγγέλιο της Κυριακής
Αγαπητοί εν Χριστώ αδελφοί,
Κατά τη διάρκεια των αιώνων οι γυναίκες προσπάθησαν να αναγνωριστούν για
την υπηρεσία τους στην εκκλησία. Σήμερα γιορτάζουμε τις μυροφόρες γυναίκες. Αυτές
ονομάζονται απόστολοι των αποστόλων για έναν πολύ καλό λόγο.
Οι γυναίκες Τον ακολουθούσαν παντού και Τον υπηρετούσαν. Η Μαρία και η
Μάρθα, ήταν οι καλές Του φίλες. Μαθαίνουμε από τα Ευαγγέλια ότι τις επισκεπτόταν
πολύ συχνά. Οι γυναίκες ήταν εκείνες που στέκονταν στο σταυρό όταν όλοι τον είχαν
αφήσει. Η Μητέρα του Θεού προσφέρει τη μέγιστη υπηρεσία στην εκκλησία. Έγινε το
πρόσωπο που επέλεξε ο θεός για την ενσάρκωση του Λόγου του Θεού, του μοναδικού
Γεννημένου Υιού που ήρθε για τη σωτηρία του κόσμου.
Ας θυμηθούμε ότι μεταξύ των μαθητών του Χριστού υπήρχαν και εκείνοι που δεν
ήταν Ισραηλίτες. Ένα παράδειγμα είναι η γυναίκα από τη Φοινίκη της Συρίας που ήρθε
ζητώντας θεραπεία για την κόρη της. Ο Ιησούς είπε γι 'αυτή τη γυναίκα ότι κανείς δεν είχε
τόσο μεγάλη πίστη όσο αυτή, ακόμη και στο Ισραήλ. Κατά την Πεντηκοστή βλέπουμε
πολλά έθνη παρόντα που γίνονται Χριστιανικά όταν ο Πέτρος είχε τη διάσημη ομιλία του.
Αυτά είναι όλα τα υπέροχα πράγματα που έκαναν οι άντρες και οι γυναίκες
μαθητές μαζί Του και γι 'Αυτόν. Αλλά έχουμε και τα αρνητικά πράγματα που μπορούμε
να δούμε να συμβαίνουν μεταξύ των μαθητών Του, ανδρών ή γυναικών. Για παράδειγμα,
στο σημερινό ανάγνωσμα από τις πράξεις των αποστόλων, μαθαίνουμε ότι καθώς
μεγαλώνε η χριστιανική κοινότητα υπήρξε μια σύγκρουση μεταξύ των ελληνόφωνων
πιστών και των πιστών που μιλούσαν εβραϊκά σχετικά με τη διανομή τροφίμων.
Ωστόσο, όπως μπορούμε να δούμε από τις πράξεις και άλλα γεγονότα της
ιστορίας του Χριστιανισμού, η εσωτερική ζωή των χριστιανών δεν ήταν πάντα ειρηνική.
Ακόμα και σήμερα υπάρχουν πολλά προβλήματα στην εκκλησία που είναι το αποτέλεσμα
των ελλείψεων που έχουμε στη ζωή μας και στους χαρακτήρες μας. Το σημαντικό όμως
είναι ότι πρέπει να προσπαθούμε πάντα να γίνουμε καλύτεροι και να καλλιεργούμε μια
ατμόσφαιρα αγάπης γύρω μας. Για να το κάνουμε αυτό μπορούμε να χρησιμοποιήσουμε
δύο πράγματα. Το πρώτο είναι το παράδειγμα των μυροφόρων γυναικών που
ακολουθούσαν τον Χριστό παντού. Το δεύτερο είναι η έκφραση που μας έρχεται από
τον τέταρτο αιώνα.
Αποκτήστε το πνεύμα του Θεού και πολλοί θα σωθούν γύρω σας.

In Appreciation for Icon Donations
We celebrate all the saints whose icons have
been dedicated by our parishioners. On the Sunday
following the Feast of the Saint we offer
Artoklasia and a trisagion service for the good
health of the living members and eternal
memory of the deceased members of the donor
family. This Sunday we celebrate the feast of
St. Irene & The Life Giving Font.
Γιορτάζουμε όλους τους αγίους των οποίων οι εικόνες έχουν αφιερωθεί από τους
ενορίτες μας. Την Κυριακή που ακολουθεί την εορτή του Αγίου προσφέρουμε
Αρτοκλασία και τρισάγιο για την υγεία των ζώντων μελών και για την αιώνια
μνήμη των εκλιπόντων μελών του δότρια οικογένεια. Αυτήν την Κυριακή
γιορτάζουμε την Αγία Ειρήνη & Ζωοδόχου Πηγής.
