which grants you the authorization to enroll at <strong>TU</strong> <strong>Berlin</strong> after all requirements have been met.<br />
As prompt and successful enrollment at our university essentially depends upon how early your complete<br />
enrollment materials have been submitted, we request that you pay special attention to the following details.<br />
● At <strong>TU</strong> <strong>Berlin</strong>, all enrollment formalities for international applicants are processed in written form.<br />
● Thus, we request that you submit all certificates and documentation indicated in the letter of<br />
acceptance in the form described and within the designated period of time.<br />
● Please note that only complete application materials can lead to enrollment at <strong>TU</strong> <strong>Berlin</strong>.<br />
● Should your submitted enrollment materials be incomplete, you will receive a one-time request<br />
from us to submit the missing documentation.<br />
● For inquiries or other problems the staff at the <strong>TU</strong> <strong>Berlin</strong> Student Services are at your disposal during<br />
the office hours indicated above – either personally at the Campus Center or by telephone.<br />

If you are not yet registered in <strong>Berlin</strong>, you must do so at a registration office of the Landeseinwohneramt<br />
(Registry Office) two weeks after moving into your housing. Further information can be obtained at<br />

If you have arrived with a student visa or student applicant visa, you must apply for its extension at the Aliens<br />
Registration Office (Ausländerbehörde) prior to the expiration of the visa<br />

Residence permits must be prolonged after specific periods of time. Please pay full attention to the appropriate<br />
deadlines and take care that applications for permit extensions are submitted punctually. This will spare you<br />
unnecessary difficulties with the Aliens Registration Office. <strong>TU</strong> <strong>Berlin</strong> members can apply for residence permit<br />
extensions with the assistance of the “International Student Counseling” team.<br />

ADMINISTRATIVE FEES<br />
Administrative fees must be paid for enrollment and then when re-registering for every subsequent <strong>semester</strong> (cf.<br />
also page 6).<br />
If you do not yet have your own bank account in Germany, you may pay the administrative fees in cash at the<br />
automatic pay station in the<br />

Information for international students<br />
HEALTH INSURANCE<br />
As a rule, students in a regular study program are required to have health insurance. Health insurance is<br />
mandatory until the conclusion of the 14 th regular <strong>semester</strong>, or – at the latest – until the end of the <strong>semester</strong><br />
during which you reach 30 years of age. You can also receive counseling on health insurance matters from the<br />
S<strong>TU</strong>DENT COORDINATION OFFICE (see below).<br />
For doctoral candidates there is no requirement to have health insurance. Nonetheless, private health insurance<br />
plans are available. You can obtain information in this context from both the Coordination Office and the<br />
International Student Counseling team.<br />
Students from EU countries may be exempted from the German requirement to have health insurance. For this<br />
purpose, if you have the European Health Insurance Card EHIC (former form E 111), or if you already have<br />
statutory health insurance in your home country, please refer to<br />

Exemption from health insurance cannot be reversed and remains valid for the entire period of study in<br />

The “Versicherungsbescheinigung zur Vorlage bei der Universität” (Insurance Certificate for Submission to<br />
University) - the insurance ID card is not enough-, or proof of exemption from statutory health insurance in<br />
Germany, must be submitted with the other application materials to the <strong>TU</strong> <strong>Berlin</strong> for enrollment.<br />

administrative problems, please make sure you provide your full name and your chosen study program at the <strong>TU</strong> <strong>Berlin</strong> with the bank<br />

Please attach a copy of your bank statement to your enrollment materials as proof of payment!<br />
General Administrative Fee<br />
Students on leave due to military service or alternative civilian service, as well as foreign exchange or scholarship program students<br />
(proof of status must be submitted), do NOT have to pay the general administrative fee according to Section 2, Para. 7 of the <strong>Berlin</strong><br />
Higher Education Act (BerlHG).<br />
Administrative Fee for the “Studentenwerk”<br />
Students on leave due to military service or alternative civilian service, occupational internship done outside <strong>Berlin</strong>, studies abroad,<br />
pregnancy, maternity leave or parental leave may be exempted from the administrative fee for the “Studentenwerk”.<br />
According to Section 6, Para. 5 pg. 3 of the “Studentenwerk” Regulations (StudWG), deferrals, cancellations, reductions or waivers<br />
of the administrative fee for the “Studentenwerk” are excluded as a rule. If a deferral, cancellation, reduction or waiver of this fee is<br />
intended, enrollment is only permissible after the Semester Ticket office has responded positively to a deferral or waiver application.<br />
Due to the low amount of the fee and the strict legal regulations, such applications can only be approved in extraordinary cases.<br />
The final decision regarding the deferral or waiver must be submitted to the the Office of Graduate Admissions.<br />
Semester Ticket<br />
As a rule, all students are required to pay the contribution for the Semester Ticket.<br />
Exceptions to this mandatory payment are:<br />
- guest auditors and auditors from other universities, students enrolled in more than one study program who do not pay for the ticket<br />
at the <strong>TU</strong> <strong>Berlin</strong>;<br />
- handicapped persons who are entitled to transportation subsidies (the corresponding ID und documentation must be presented).<br />
In addition to these exceptions, exemptions from this contribution may be applied for in particular cases, e.g.:<br />
- handicapped students who can present a medical certificate confirming that they are unable to use public transportation for this<br />
reason;<br />
- students on leave;<br />
- students who reside for at least one <strong>semester</strong> outside the regular public transportation zone due to their studies (Section 2, Para. 2<br />
of the Regulations for Social Insurance Contributions to the “Studentenwerk <strong>Berlin</strong>”/SozVO).<br />
Applications for the exemption from the payment of the contributions or subsidies to the Semester Ticket program must be<br />
approved by the Semester Ticket office. Application forms are available at the Semester Ticket office and any questions regarding<br />
