Junior Jury
The Competition is pleased to welcome the Junior Jury, a
new component to our event. The program was developed
through the support of the Dan and Linda Rocker Silverberg
Philanthropic Funds to foster and broaden the skills of
young classical pianists in Greater Cleveland. Six young
piano students have been invited to participate as the Junior
Jury for the 2007 Competition, giving them unprecedented
access to the event and its key participants.
Members of the 2007 Junior Jury are:
Miss Jessica Du, age 16, Hathaway Brown School, class
of 2009, piano student for eight years.
Miss Kelsey Ekker, age 18, Strongsville High School, class
of 2007, piano student for eight years.
The Competition and Access To The Arts completed a
community service project on Tuesday, July 24. Access
To The Arts (ATTA) is a non-profit organization established
to provide arts experiences for the elderly and to foster
among students of the arts a concern for the aged and
the opportunity for meaningful experience outside the
classroom and studio. Throughout the year, students and
professionals offer performances under the able leadership
of Graham Grund, executive director of ATTA and advisory
board member of PIANO.
Several of this year’s contestants arrived in Cleveland a
day early to offer a preview recital at nursing homes,
hospitals, senior centers, and/or retirement communities.
These events are greatly appreciated by the audience
members, many of whom then listen to the Competition
on WCLV with special interest in "their" contestant. The
Community Service
Cleveland International Piano Competition 2007
Each student will be given preferred seating tickets
for the entire ten day Competition. They will evaluate
the performances and vote on the outcome of
the Competition just as the “real” jury does. The
vote of the Junior Jury will be announced at the
conclusion of the event.
To enhance the learning experience, Junior Jury
members will meet with contestants, jury
members, music critics and reporters, and other
experts in the field of classical music. They also
will chronicle their impressions on WCLV’s web site
(www.wclv.com).
The Silverberg’s generous gift will also be used
to provide tickets so that other young piano
students can enjoy the Competition. The
program is administered by the Steinway
Educators Partnership.
contestants appreciate the opportunity to try out their
programs for very appreciative audiences before the
actual Competition begins.
