In 2010, The Danish Headache Center was awarded with Global Excellence in Health. Rigmor Højland Jensen is a clinical Professor at the University of Copenhagen, where she first trained in medicine and neurology. Rigmor Højland Jensen is at present, President Elect of the European Headache Federation, Director in Lifting the Global Burden of Headache and EHMTIC and has been the President of the Danish Headache Society. Professor Jensen’s research interests include epidemiology of headache, pathophysiology of tensiontype headache, stroke, medication overuse headache, and chronic pain, cluster headache, idiopathic intracranial hypertension and CSF regulation. Dr Kay Kennis UK Kay is a part-time salaried GP. She qualified from Oxford and undertook postgraduate training in medicine at Plymouth where she obtained the MRCP, and then at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London. She opted for a career in Primary Care and was appointed to the GP rotation in Bradford where she was awarded the MRCGP, DRCOG and DFFP. She joined her current practice in Bradford in 2006. In partnership with colleagues from the Neurology Department at Bradford she established a Primary Care headache service which she manages and which receives referrals from the PCT and surrounding NHS trusts. In 2010 she was appointed to the NICE Guideline Development Group on Headache. Dr Tobias Kurth France Dr. Kurth is a Director of Research at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm) Unit 708 – Neuroepidemiology and the University of Bordeaux, Bordeaux, France. He is an Adjunct Associated Professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health and a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Headache Society. Dr. Kurth received his M.D. from the University of Tübingen in Germany and a doctorate in epidemiology from Harvard. His research on migraine focuses on the interrelationships with vascular factors and cardiovascular disease, genetic determinants, and consequences on brain structure and function. Dr. Kurth has published >200 research articles and book chapters and he is Associate Editor of Cephalalgia and Consulting Clinical Epidemiology Editor at the BMJ. Professor Anne MacGregor UK Anne MacGregor is a specialist in headaches and women’s health. She is Honorary Professor, Centre for Neuroscience & Trauma, Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular Science at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. In addition to her work in headache, she works at Barts Sexual Health Centre, St Bartholomew’s Hospital and is the CRQ convener for the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. Her research crosses the fields of neurology and reproductive healthcare, with her MD thesis exploring the role of oestrogen in migraine. She has published over 150 research papers and book chapters, five single author books, four co-authored books and two co-edited books. Prof Karl Messlinger Germany Dr med. Karl Messlinger is a Professor of Physiology at the Institute of Physiology & Pathophysiology of the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany. He graduated from the University of Würzburg in Biology (1981) and Medicine (1985), received a doctoral degree with a study on auditory brainstem responses and spent his postdoctoral period in the distinguished pain research group of Robert F. Schmidt. In 1993 he received the Habilitation degree after an extended scientific work about the structure and function of nociceptive afferent endings in joint tissues. Then he turned to neurohistological and neurophysiological studies on meningeal nociception in animals with the translational view on the generation of headaches. The methods used in his laboratory comprise immunohistochemistry, neuronal tracing, neuropeptide measurements, extracellular recordings from primary afferents and central neurons in vivo and in vitro, blood flow measurements and functional imaging. Professor Messlinger was a research fellow at the Dental School of the University of Toronto in 1990 and a researcher and visiting professor at the Research Institute of Environmental Medicine at the University of Nagoya, Japan, during several periods between 1995

As a University Professor he is involved in lectures, seminars and practical courses for students of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Medical Engineering, Pharmaceutics, Psychology, Biology and Informatics. He is a member of several scientific communities like the Society for Neuroscience, the International Association for the Study of Pain and the International Headache Society, and he is a co-editor of Experimental Brain Research. Dr Dimos D. Mitsikostas Greece Dr Mitsikostas graduated from the Aristoteles’ University Medical School, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1985; five years later he obtained his PhD degree in neuropharmacology, from the National University, Athens, Greece. He certified in Neurology, in 1993, after he fulfilled the 4-year residency in Neurology Department, Aeginition Hospital, National University, Athens, Greece. He has performed post-doc studies in experimental molecular pharmacology of pain at the Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts (1996-1998, Professor’s M.A. Moskowitz lab) and at the Institute of Neurology, University College London, London, UK (Professors’ P.J. Goadsby lab and headache clinic). He is member of several national and international societies covering the field of neurology, headache, multiple sclerosis and pain. He is author of 60 peer-reviewed papers with more than 1000 citations, editor and co-editor in four textbooks and reviewer in several international medical journals. He is currently vice president of the Executive Board of the European Headache Federation. He has been heading the Neurology Department of the Athens Naval Hospital since 2001. Dr Prab Prabhaker UK Dr Prab Prabhakar is a consultant paediatric neurologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust and Honorary Lecturer in Paediatric Neurology at the University College London-Institute of Child Health. He qualified from Madras University in Chennai in 1993. He undertook General Paediatric and Neurology training in the UK and was appointed to this post in 2007. He is a general neurologist who sees a wide variety of childhood neurological illness including epilepsy, stoke, demyelinating disorders, Head Injury –both Accidental and Non-Accidental, multidisciplinary assessment of complex neurometabolic and genetic conditions across the age range. He runs the Children’s Headache Services at Great Ormond Street. This clinic provides a range of comprehensive treatments including in patient care. The service has links with Queens square for transition of care and international experts. He is an executive council member of BASH (British Association of Study of Headaches). He is the paediatric representative in the classification subcommittee of the International Headache Society. His research commitment includes, drug trials in children for both the acute treatment and prophylaxis of migraine. He regularly lectures at the paediatric neurology course run by the Institute of Child Health. Ronald Allan Purdy, MD, FRCPC, FACP, FAHS Canada R. Allan Purdy MD, FRCPC, is Professor of Medicine (Neurology) at Dalhousie University. He was Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine, and Chief of the Medicine Service of the Department of Medicine at Dalhousie and Capital Health from 2005 to June of 2011. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, and was elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2008. He previously was the Professor and Head of Neurology at Dalhousie from 1994 to 2006. Dr. Purdy is Past - President of the Canadian Headache Society. He is on the editorial boards of Cephalalgia and Headache, and is a member of the Education Committees of the American Headache Society and International Headache Society, and on the Board of Directors of both societies. He has directed educations courses as a member of the Scientific Program Committee of the International Headache Congress in Kyoto in 2005, Stockholm in 2007, Philadelphia in 2009 and Berlin in 2011 as well as the Migraine Trust for many years in London. He has been Chair of the Scientific Program Committee of the American Headache Society since 2010 and is Co-Chair of the Scientific Program for the International Headache Society in Boston in 2013. He is an invited speaker on migraine and headache disorders worldwide. He has received Excellence in Teaching Awards from his Department and University on numerous occasions as well as an Instructional Leadership Award from the Association of Atlantic Universities in Atlantic Canada.
