2001). Small edge chip, otherwise good fine or better,<br />

toned £80-100<br />

Light coinage, Groat, London, class X, mm. long cross<br />

fitchée on obv., sun on rev., trefoils by neck, on cusps <strong>and</strong><br />

breast, reads FRAN, no stops, 2.43g/6h (B & W Xa, 3a; N<br />

1577; S 2003). Nearly very fine £80-100<br />

Henry VI (Restored, 1470-1471)<br />

Groat, London, mm. Restoration cross, no trefoils above<br />

crown, lis (?) after DEVM, 2.90g/11h (B & W 4/5; N 1617; S<br />

2082). Obverse slightly weak <strong>and</strong> double-struck in places,<br />

otherwise about very fine £200-250<br />

Edward IV (Second reign, 1471-1483)<br />

Groat, class XIV, mm. annulet, trefoils on cusps, no stops,<br />

3.09g/9h (B & W XIV; N 1631; S 2096). Good fine £60-80<br />

Groat, class XVIII, mm. pierced cross <strong>and</strong> pellet, fleurs on<br />

cusps, saltire stops, 2.81g/7h (B & W XVIIIb; N 1631; S<br />

2098). A few obverse surface marks, otherwise nearly<br />

very fine £80-100<br />

Groat, class XXI, mm. heraldic cinquefoil, rose on breast<br />

<strong>and</strong> after DEVM, 2.89g/11h (B & W XXI; N 1631; S 2100).<br />

Flan a little irregular, otherwise about very fine, toned<br />

Richard III (1483-1485)<br />

Groat, London, type 1, mm. halved sun <strong>and</strong> rose no. 1,<br />

Penny, York, Abp Rotherham, mm. unclear, T <strong>and</strong> upright<br />

key by neck, rev. quatrefoil in centre, 0.51g/11h (N 1686; cf.<br />

S 2166-7). Heavily clipped, fine or better, scarce £150-200<br />

Henry VII (1485-1509)<br />

Facing Bust issue, Groat, Tower, mm. crowned portcullis<br />

(without chains on rev.), 2.89g/6h (N 1762; S 2316). Good<br />

very fine, pleasantly toned £250-300<br />

Profile issue, Groat, mm. cross-crosslet, 3.01g/1h (N 1747;<br />

S 2258). Good very fine on a full round flan £250-300<br />

Henry VIII (1509-1547)<br />

First coinage, Halfgroat, York, Abp Wolsey, mm. pansy,<br />

keys <strong>and</strong> cardinal’s hat below shield, 1.38g/12h (Whitton<br />

iii; N 1771; S 2326). A few surface marks <strong>and</strong> scratches,<br />

otherwise nearly very fine £120-150<br />

Second coinage, Groat, mm. lis, bust D, reads FRANCE,<br />

saltires in forks, 2.65g/2h (Whitton iv, 1; N 1797; S 2337E).<br />

Weakly struck in places, otherwise very fine £150-200<br />
