A couple of weak spots, otherwise about very fine £90-120<br />

Light coinage, Groat, London, class VIII/VII mule, mm.<br />

crown, quatrefoils by neck, fleurs on cusps, quatrefoil on<br />

breast, 3.01g/7h (B & W VIII/VII; N 1571/70; S<br />

2001/2000). Light scratches on neck, otherwise nearly<br />

very fine, scarce £90-120<br />

Light coinage, Groat, Bristol, class VII, mm. crown,<br />

quatrefoils by neck, fleurs on cusps except above crown, B<br />

on breast, reads BRISTOW, trefoil after VIL <strong>and</strong> LA, saltire stops,<br />

3.12g/2h (B & W VII(a), rev. var. 2; N 1580; S 2004). Good<br />

very fine, toned £150-200<br />

on breast, reads NORWIC, saltire stops, 3.13g/9h (B & W VIi;<br />

N 1582; S 2011). Better than very fine, toned, rare<br />

£200-300<br />

Light coinage, Groat, York, class VII, mm. lis (over crown<br />

on rev.), quatrefoils by neck, fleurs on cusps except above<br />

crown, E on breast, saltire stops on obv., no stops on rev.,<br />

2.84g/7h (B & W VII; N 1583; S 2012). About very fine<br />

Good fine, the error variety unusual £100-150<br />

Edward IV (Second reign, 1471-1483)<br />

Groat, London, class XVIII, mm. pierced cross <strong>and</strong> pellet,<br />

2.54g/12h (B & W XVIII; N 1631; S 2098). Good fine<br />

Groat, London, class XIV, mm. annulet, trefoils on cusps,<br />

saltire stops on obv., no stops on rev., 2.63g/5h (B & W<br />

XIV; N 1631; S 2096). Small of flan, otherwise nearly very<br />

fine £60-80<br />

Groat, London, class XVIII, mm. pierced cross <strong>and</strong> pellet<br />

on obv. only, reads DI GRA, rose after POSVI <strong>and</strong> DON, double<br />

saltire after TAS, 3.20g/9h (B & W XVIIIb; N 1631; S 2098).<br />

Nearly extremely fine, a very rare variety £250-300<br />

According to Blunt & Whitton [BNJ XXV, p.323], only one reverse<br />

die without mintmark shows this combination of stops<br />

Groat, London, class XXI, mm. heraldic cinquefoil, rose on<br />

breast, rose after DEVM, 3.12g/9h (B & W XXI; N 1631; S<br />

2100). About very fine £120-150<br />

Richard III (1483-1485)<br />

Groat, London, type 1, mm. halved sun <strong>and</strong> rose no. 1,<br />

nothing below bust, 3.08g/11h (N 1679; S 2154). A couple<br />

of weak patches, otherwise good very fine, attractively<br />

toned £1,500-1,800<br />
