agent for Rollin & Feuardent. Underst<strong>and</strong>ably, when remarking on<br />

the values for coins quoted by Thorburn 35 years earlier, Day says<br />

“they are not much good, prices average now, at least 100% above<br />

those [quoted], except for the coins from George III to Victoria,<br />

which are about the same”<br />

by Sotheby’s in three auctions, occupying a total of 34 days, in<br />

1844. Henry Alex<strong>and</strong>er Ogg was a noted portrait <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong>scape<br />

painter <strong>and</strong> copperplate engraver in the late 1830s<br />
