Hosted by the Ford Foundation, this event focuses on how to build an urban future
that is socially, economically and environmentally sustainable. Cities are on the
fronstlines of global sustainability. Join us for a compelling discussion about the
future of our built environment. All of the world’s population growth over the next four
decades—some 2.3 billion people—will take place in urban areas. What will the cities
of the future look like? How can we ensure that they are just cities, shaped by
fairness, opportunity and a commitment to shared prosperity?

The Urban Summit, 18 June, Forte de Copacabana
Co-organised by UCLG United Cities and Local Governments and UN-Habitat and
the City of Rio de Janeiro with the support of Cities Alliance, after the successful
meeting with the UN Secretary General in New York last April, the Urban Summit will
present the local and regional governments’ recommendations on sustainable
