One of the goals of the Management Team for 2013 is a commitment to improving communications
with the staff. While none of us intentionally holds back information, sometimes we can’t remember
who we said what to. As an outcome of this ‘commitment’, I will be writing a “News Brief” every month
after the Management Team Meeting. I will provide a summary of the Team Meeting and highlights of
the MUHA Leadership Communications Meetings. I will try to collate information so that you have one
place to come for the latest news.
The areas that I oversee include the Admit Transfer Center (ATC), CDI, UR and HIS. There are approximately
158 employees working in this division. The Leadership Team is made up of:
Management Team Meeting discussion:
MUHA is in a very tight ‘hiring freeze’. A letter of justification must be completed for any open
position to be refilled. Even with the reasons for the need to fill the vacant position, very few
positions are being approved. As employees leave, the managers and I will be closely looking
at how we can complete our job duties without filling the position. This may result in employees
being asked to do different tasks or be more productive. We would much rather reduce
our staffing numbers through attrition/turnover rather than through any forced staff reduc-
tions.
One of the common goals for all of our areas is customer service and our Internal Customer
Satisfaction Survey. In this time of budget reductions and hiring freezes, the one thing we
must do is make sure Administration is aware of the value we have to this institution. We can
do this through excellent customer service. We want to make ourselves invaluable to other
departments within MUSC and to outside entities.
In-coming months, I will provide an update on the Departmental Goals and other news to keep staff ‘in
the know’. Please send me an e-mail if there is something in particular you want me to cover.
Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to MUHA.
