Program overview: This program aims to<br />

provide students with a practical understanding<br />

of current international trade and investment<br />

issues, the political dynamics of the negotiating<br />

environment and the opportunities and challenges<br />

presented to businesses by the globalised<br />

economy. It is designed to give graduates an<br />

extra competitive edge in the workforce by<br />

providing them with an interactive case-study based<br />

background in how business and government<br />

interact in trade negotiations, leveraging<br />

commercial opportunities arising out of ‘third<br />

wave’ trade agreements, and practical legal and<br />

commercial aspects of export marketing.<br />

This unique program is staffed by Australian and<br />

overseas experts in global commercial matters.<br />

Students will leave the program equipped to<br />

put their newly gained knowledge into practice<br />

will be adopted, including individual and group<br />

assignments, individual and group presentations,<br />

investigative projects, and final exams.<br />

Likely careers: Careers in International Trade<br />

and Development increasingly require knowledge<br />

and skills that transcend traditional academic<br />

disciplines. Government officials, business<br />

representatives, international aid agency employees<br />

and others working in today’s global environment<br />

need a broad background in economics, international<br />

law, trade policy and business to effectively meet<br />

the challenges they face. Specific careers include:<br />

official (such as AusAID), export market<br />

development official (such as Austrade), national<br />

development planner, trade agreements negotiator,<br />

parliamentary adviser, parliamentarian, policy adviser<br />
