Prerequisite/entry criteria: An applicant<br />

for admission to the program of study for the<br />

degree of Master of Minimally Invasive Surgery<br />

must be an experienced surgeon who has<br />

gained FRACS (Fellow of Royal Australasian<br />

College of Surgeons), FRANZCOG (Fellow of the<br />

Royal Australian and New Zealand College of<br />

Obstetricians and Gynaecologists), or equivalent,<br />

or is within at least one year of achieving it. The<br />

applicant should ideally hold a Fellowship or post<br />

Fellowship position in their surgical speciality, and<br />

be a Senior Registrar, Fellow or newly appointed<br />

Consultant Surgeon or have an established<br />

Duration: 1.5 years<br />

Statement of about 500 words on reason for<br />

applying, resume, names of 2 referees.<br />

Assessment: Written assignments, quizzes<br />

and tutorial participation.<br />

Likely careers:<br />

OHS managers and program coordinators, OHS<br />

surgical practice and wish to advance their<br />

qualifications in minimally invasive surgery.<br />

Applicants must be able to attend two clinical<br />

workshops in Adelaide during the year program –<br />

in April and in November. Applicants must hold a<br />

clinical position. This is not automatically offered<br />

with the Master of Minimally Invasive Surgery<br />

and applicants are personally responsible for<br />

obtaining a suitable position.<br />

Extra admission requirements: International<br />

applicants must be resident in Australia, meet<br />

the requirements of the Temporary Business<br />

(Long Stay) 457 visa and must register with the<br />

Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.<br />

Applicants also need to provide a curriculum<br />

vitae, 2 letters of reference, and certified copies<br />

of all awards (accompanied by an official<br />

translation if not in English).<br />

Program overview: This program will provide a<br />

professional qualification for those who wish to<br />

have minimally invasive surgery as a predominant<br />

part of their future surgical practice. In particular,<br />

MASTER OF OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT<br />

inspectors and advisers and OHS educators.<br />

Program overview: Occupational Health and<br />

Safety (OHS) Management is an area of prime<br />

importance in the management of enterprises and<br />

other workplaces, generating a demand for<br />

qualified occupational health and safety professionals.<br />

This program is designed to enable graduates to<br />

work effectively in a range of OHS professional roles.<br />

understanding of the theory of minimally invasive<br />

procedures combined with a thorough clinical<br />

grounding in minimally invasive surgery.<br />

Assessment: Assignments, online tutorials,<br />

clinical placement, examinations and the<br />

completion of a research publication which<br />

is deemed suitable for submission to a peer<br />

reviewed journal.<br />

Likely careers: Successful completion of the<br />

program will enable surgeons to obtain senior<br />

appointments in surgical units where they will<br />

be able to perform minimally invasive surgery<br />

with a high level of success.<br />
