Prerequisites/entry criteria: Entry is available<br />

to graduates with an Australian Honours<br />

Psychology degree or equivalent comprising of<br />

a minimum of Second Class, Division A Honours<br />

and an individually-conducted research project<br />

carrying 33% or more of the years work.<br />

Selection procedures depend on academic<br />

results, referee reports and a structured interview<br />

conducted by a panel. There is usually very<br />

strong competition for the limited number of<br />

places available.<br />

Extra admission requirements:<br />

Applicants who have an overseas Honours<br />

qualification should supply a certified copy of<br />

the assessment of their qualifications by the<br />

Australian Psychological Society (APS) and<br />

information about the research component of<br />

their qualifications.<br />

Program overview:<br />

This program is suitable for students who have<br />

already completed an undergraduate degree that<br />

does not include studies in Psychology or does<br />

not include studies in Psychology beyond Level I.<br />

The Graduate Diploma consists of all the Level<br />

II and Level III Psychology courses required by<br />

the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council<br />

BRIDGING COURSE: INTRODUCTORY PSYCHOLOGY<br />

All applicants studying onshore or offshore must<br />

produce an IELTS (academic) with a minimum<br />

score of 7 in each component.<br />

Program overview: The program will<br />

provide a professional qualification for those<br />

who wish to work as psychologists within the<br />

applied health field. In particular, the aim of the<br />

program is to produce health psychologists<br />

who can apply psychological research and<br />

methods to the prevention and management<br />

of disease and illness; the promotion and<br />

maintenance of health; the identification of<br />

psychological factors contributing to illness;<br />

and the improvement of the health care<br />

system and health policy.<br />

There are three 18-week half-time placements<br />

(two in health promotion and one in clinical health<br />

psychology), and a literature review and research<br />

report in the form of a publishable paper.<br />

Assessment: Coursework is examined by<br />

assignments and examination, placements<br />

are assessed from reports by the placement<br />

supervisor, and the research report is examined<br />

internally by two markers.<br />

Likely careers: Health psychologists specialise<br />

in understanding the relationships between<br />

psychological factors and health and illness.<br />

Students without the equivalent Level I<br />

Psychology are able to enrol in Introductory<br />

Psychology, a bridging course offered by the<br />

Program overview: This program is a bridging<br />

course for the Graduate Diploma in Psychological<br />

Health Psychologists practice in two main areas:<br />

health promotion and clinical health.<br />

Associate Membership of the College of Health<br />

Psychologists, and for registration with the<br />

Psychology Board of Australia.<br />
