13 <strong>IARU</strong> REGION 1 CERTIFICATES AND MEDALS<br />
<strong>IARU</strong> <strong>Region</strong> I can recognize meritorious performance in the wide field of amateur activities by awarding<br />
a) an <strong>IARU</strong> <strong>Region</strong> I certificate<br />
b) an <strong>IARU</strong> <strong>Region</strong> I medal.<br />
With respect to the amateur activities on the <strong>VHF</strong>/UHF/SHF bands the following recommendations are relevant.<br />
At the <strong>IARU</strong> <strong>Region</strong> 1 Conference in Folkestone (1961) the following resolution was adopted:<br />
It is recommended that the Executive Committee of <strong>IARU</strong> <strong>Region</strong> I issue a certificate to those amateurs within<br />
<strong>Region</strong> I who make first QSO's by unusual modes of propagation, such as meteor-scatter, sporadic-E and<br />
moonbounce.<br />
At the <strong>IARU</strong> <strong>Region</strong> 1 Conference in Malmo (1963) the following additional recommendation was adopted( 3 ):<br />
The Chairman of the <strong>VHF</strong>/UHF/Microwave Committee is authorized to request the <strong>IARU</strong> <strong>Region</strong> 1 Executive<br />
Committee to issue <strong>Region</strong> 1 certificates for special <strong>VHF</strong>/UHF/SHF performances.<br />

DB6NT<br />
At the interim meeting of the <strong>IARU</strong> <strong>Region</strong> 1 <strong>VHF</strong>/UHF/Microwaves committee in Vienna 1995 it was decided<br />
to propose to the Executive Committee to issue the <strong>Region</strong> 1 Medal to Michael Kuhne, DB6NT,<br />
for his outstanding contributions to the promotion of microwave activities. He not only is a keen microwave dx-er on all<br />
bands up to 245 Ghz but has published his designs, allowing other amateurs to construct microwave equipment.<br />
The executive Committee supported this proposal and the Medal and Cetrificate were presented to DB6NT by PA0EZ<br />
at the 1995 Friedrichshaven International Meeting<br />
S53MV<br />
The Executive Committee of <strong>IARU</strong> <strong>Region</strong> 1 has at its April 1999 Meeting decided to offer the <strong>IARU</strong> <strong>Region</strong> 1<br />
Medal to Matjaz Vidmar, S53MV,<br />
in recognition of his contributions to amateur radio in the field of satellites, microwaves and digital communications.<br />
The medal and certificate were presented by PA0EZ to representatives of the Slovenian Society at an official ceremony<br />
at the <strong>Region</strong> 1 Conference in Lillehammer 1999.<br />
