Certification of the group<br />

The ISO 9001 certification project involving all the<br />
companies belonging to the Metal Work Group was<br />
successfully completed at the end of November last year.<br />
Starting three years ago with certification of the<br />
subsidiaries in France, Denmark and Sweden, the project<br />
finished with PS Mantua, with audits carried out by<br />
Dekra Certification Services in as many as 20 companies<br />
in Italy and 6 in Europe. Why such an extensive and<br />
highly committing project? Simply because, right from its<br />
first application, the ISO standard proved itself a valid<br />
model providing the inspiration to create and improve<br />
organisation within the individual companies in the<br />
Group. And interlinked management enabled compliance<br />
with the Quality System already in operation at MW since<br />
1992. The involvement and active participation of those<br />
in charge at each associated company, together with those at all other levels,<br />
made it possible for such a major project to succeed. All the functions involved<br />
provided active assistance, managing to reconcile this extra work with their<br />
already numerous daily tasks. ISO 9001 certification was made possible first and<br />
foremost thanks to the general conviction that all the effort required to improve<br />
our organisation and image would pay dividends in the end. The heads of all the<br />
companies were in total agreement with this approach, which made the<br />
certification procedure in all the associates short and sweet. And that’s not all.<br />
The adoption of the interlinked management Quality System, with extremely<br />
similar if not identical procedures and forms used, enabled us to find common<br />
organisational solutions – a significant step forward in the process of<br />
standardising fundamental processes. The year 2000 will see this great young<br />
‘group quality team’ involved in two different areas: extension of the Quality<br />
System with certification of the latest additions to the Group in parallel with work<br />
to sustain and improve the Quality System already in operation at 26 certified<br />
companies. Regular audits will be performed by the MW Quality Assurance Service<br />
and directly by Dekra Certification Services. The aim of these inspections is to<br />
highlight any weak points in the system and, more importantly, to propose the<br />
remedial action required. Particular attention will be paid to streamlining the<br />
system still further by reducing paperwork to improve efficiency - which has long<br />
been the keyword of the entire Group.<br />
