Sunflower 4412 Rips Deep, Leaves Field Surface Smooth
DULUTH, GA – October 2007 — The new Sunflower 4412 Disc Ripper Disc
combines deep tillage with a proven disc harrow design for primary tillage. This leaves the field
a full step closer to seedbed smooth. Staggered overlapping front disc gangs slice through trash
and bury it. Parabolic shanks rip deep, breaking up even heavily compacted soil zones.
Staggered, rear gangs smooth and level the deep-tilled ground.
"The Model 4412 brings together two proven tillage system designs to create the
ultimate in deep tillage while leaving behind a field surface free of ridges," says Tom Draper,
Product Marketing Manager for Sunflower Mfg. "Sunflower has long been a leader in residue
management and soil preparation. The model 4412 takes both to a new level, eliminating a full
step in tillage."
The heavy duty Sunflower 4412 features a main frame constructed of 6 x 4-in., 3/8-in.
steel tubing reinforced at all high stress points. Shanks are set on 30-in. spacing and are
designed to handle hard ground with a 3,500 lb. trip setting. When they do encounter obstacles,
they safely trip as high as 16 inches upward. Operators can select from either 14” or 18”
maximum depths as needed. The front and rear gangs can be adjusted remotely from the cab and
operated independently of the main frame and from each other.
"The parallel linkage, which actually moves the gangs, is an important component to
the 4412 disc design," says Draper. "It allows the operator to change gang depth as much as 8”
without changing blade position or angle. That keeps the disc blades in proper relationship to the
shanks and the correct angle to the ground for optimum tillage."
The aggressive and effective residue slicing and soil inversion produced by the front
gang assemblies is a result of the patented and proven compound angle positioning of the
individually mounted 22-in. discs. Each disc blade is individually C-Flex Arm mounted with a
five bolt hub for easy replacement.
"The overlapping blade design of the front gangs and the staggered rear gangs ensure
even and complete tillage, and features like the UMHW, service free, lift bearings reduce
maintenance," says Draper. "With in-cab, hydraulic gang adjustment, a self leveling hitch and
single point depth control, the Sunflower 4412 is not only efficient and effective, it is also
operator friendly. Even transit is made easier with the folding rear gang on the seven shank
model."
