Total number <strong>of</strong> terrestrial bird species recorded for each site is given above. 2.4 Discussion In <strong>the</strong> last 180 years following European settlement, Rottnest Island habitats have been drastically modified, in particular through <strong>the</strong> large-scale loss <strong>of</strong> woodland and forest vegetation. The loss and modification <strong>of</strong> habitats, as well as o<strong>the</strong>r threatening processes has subsequently changed <strong>the</strong> biodiversity <strong>of</strong> avian species, <strong>the</strong>ir abundance and <strong>the</strong>ir distribution on Rottnest Island. 21 18 19 29 22 14 13
