Route Charlemagne
The Route Charlemagne Aachen
connects important places in the
city, forming a path through
history – and a reference from
history to the future. At the
centre of the Route Charlemagne,
the former imperial palace
complex of Charlemagne with
the “Katschhof”, the town hall,
and the cathedral today still
bear visible witness to the place
which once formed the core
of an empire with European
dimensions.
Aachen is a historical city, a
city of science, and a European
city, and its history must be
read as a history of Europe. This
and other main themes such as
religion, power, economy and
media have their counterparts
and interpretations in places like
the cathedral and the town hall,
the International Newspaper
Museum, the “Grashaus”, the
“Haus Löwenstein”, the Couven
Museum, the Axis of Science,
the SuperC service centre of the
RWTH Aachen University and
the Elisenbrunnen. Until completion
of the central contact
point and the exhibition at the
Katschhof, the information point
in the Haus Löwenstein will be
pleased to explain visitors the
development of the Route Charlemagne.
