Chapter 1. Introduction This chapter addresses some of the common concepts and defines the associated terms used in IT infrastructure and generally referred to as Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS). Although this paper covers the AIX V6, R1 operating system continuous availability features, it also introduces the global availability picture for an IT environment in order to better identify and understand what AIX brings to overall IT environment availability.
