Recommendations<br />
The Commonwealth Government needs to regularly monitor nutrition <strong>and</strong> <strong>waste</strong>.<br />
Currently, lack of data <strong>in</strong>hibits government <strong>and</strong> others from identify<strong>in</strong>g problems <strong>and</strong><br />
develop<strong>in</strong>g effective solutions. Surveys are essential to monitor the <strong>Australia</strong>n situation<br />
<strong>and</strong> to <strong>in</strong>form <strong>and</strong> evaluate public health <strong>and</strong> environmental campaigns.<br />
� Conduct a National Nutrition Survey: Without a National Nutrition Survey of adults<br />
<strong>in</strong> 13 years, it is impossible to develop <strong>in</strong>formed policies <strong>and</strong> programs. Regular data<br />
collection, us<strong>in</strong>g consistent sampl<strong>in</strong>g techniques, is necessary for determ<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
changes <strong>in</strong> <strong>consumption</strong> over time <strong>and</strong> the effectiveness of <strong>in</strong>terventions <strong>and</strong><br />
campaigns.<br />
� Conduct a National Waste Survey: Without reliable data on food <strong>waste</strong>, it is<br />
unclear exactly where most food is be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>waste</strong>d. This data is essential to create<br />
