resident Helen R. Crandall-
Zembruski passed away
Friday, May 1,2009.
Born Helen Kidder in
Windsor, Ontario, and raised in
Detroit, she graduated from St.
Martin Catholic High School in
1941. After graduation, she
worked for the Internal
Revenue Service and met and
married William Crandall Jan.
4, 1947 and moved to the
Grosse Pointe area.
Mrs. Crandall-Zembruski
worked at Vanda Beauty
Counselor in Detroit and at
Jacobson's in Grosse Pointe.
After her husband's retirement,
the couple enjoyed spending
time at their homes in Port
Sanilac and Florida
In 1994, Florida became her
permanent home where she
enjoyed tennis, bocce ball and
walking. She also looked forward
to the senior games in her
community in which she participated
and won several medals.
After the death of her husband,
William, she met and
married Louis Zembruski and
remained in Florida until she
returned to Michigan in 2006.
Mrs. Crandall-Zembruski is
survived by her husband,
Louis; daughters, Mary Kay
Crandall, Suzanne (Brad)
Bassett, Margaret (Emmett)
Hannon and Maureen
Crandall; sons, Michael
(Margaret), David (Betty),
Charles, Robert (Sheila),
Patrick (Paula) and Matthew
(Carol); brother, Earl Kidder;
sister, Beverly Waller; 16 grandchildren
and seven greatgrandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated
at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug.
3, at St Ambrose Catholic
Church, 15020 ^ampton St.,
Grosse Pointe Park.

Robert K.
Roadstrum
Robert K. Roadstrum, 101,
died peacefully Tuesday, June
30, 2009, at Shorepointe
Nursing Center in St. Clair
Shores. Mr. Roadstrum was
born April 16, 1908, in Peoria,
HI. to Clarence and Elizabeth
Roadstrum.
He graduated from Eastern
High School in 1926. He was
married to Florence Carlson for
42 years until her passing in
1976. The following year, Mr.
Roadstrum became reacquainted
with a high school crush,
Blanche Hosie. They were married
for 25 years until she died
in 2001.
Mr. Roadstrum's great passions
in life were art and sailing.
After high school, he attended
drawing school and became
a draftsman/illustrator. He.
worked at Ross Roy
Advertising and in the mid-
1950s, opened an advertising
business which he ran for 25
years.
As a child, Mr. Roadstrum
was a "river rat," hanging
around the original Bayview
Yacht Club next to Water
Works Park. He'd had a number
of small boats, and as a 17year-old,
earned a crew spot on
the Calypso for the first
Bayview to Mackinac Island
sailboat race held in 1925. He
would compete in 48 more
Mackinacs over his career.
Mr. Roadstrum was a founding
member of the Old Goats
Society — members sailing in
25 or more Mackinac races. He
joined Bayview in 1940 and
bought his first boat shortly
thereafter, a 26-foot Privateer,
which he owned and raced for
35 years. He became the unofficial
"artist in residence" at
Bayview, creating caricatures
of each new Old Goat member.
Mr. Roadstrum's second
marriage in 1977 opened up
another life for him — he
bought his first house, now had
children and grandchildren
and bought a larger boat, a Cal
36 "Goldigger," on which he
sailed his first Mackinac as an
owner in 1978 at the age of 70.
He had many characteristic
expressions rendered in a gravelly
voice. To Mr. Roadstrum,
his loving family will say, "I'll
see ya kid."
Mr. Roadstrum is survived by
a niece, Beth (Joe) Moran and
nephew, Bill (Linda)
Pankhurst. He also is survived
by stepdaughter, Salty (Vince)
Giacobbe; stepson, Richard
(Dede) Marsh and grandchildren,
Jeff and John Giacobbe,
Robert and Stephen Marsh and
Jennifer Russell.
A memorial gathering will be
held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday,
Aug. 6, at Bayview Yacht Club.

Louis J. Fischer
Grosse Pointe Park resident
Louis J. Fischer, 66, passed
away peacefully surrounded by
his loving family Friday, July
24, 2009, after a courageous
battle with cancer.
After graduation from
Lakeview High School in St.
Clair Shores, Mr. Fischer joined
the United States Air Force and
then was honorably discharged.
He was employed in
the automotive leasing industry,
retiring from Wheels, Inc. in
Chicago and VPSI in Troy.
He was a lifetime parishioner
of St. Clare of Montefalco
Catholic Church in Grosse
Pointe Park and Blessed Pope
John XXHI Catholic Church in
Fort Myers, Fla.
Among his many interests,
Mr. Fischer most enjoyed traveling,
golf and fishing. He
looked forward to winters in
Fort Myers and summers at
Boyne Mountain and especially
enjoyed spending time with his
beloved grandsons.
He was a member of
Gowanie Golf Club in Harrison
Township and Old Hickory
Golf and Country dub in Fort
Myers.
Mr. Fischer's family said he
lived his life with a responsible
hand, generous heart, ready
smile, willing spirit, and most of
all, an irresistible charm.
Mr. Fischer is survived by his
beloved wife of 45 years,
Carole, nee Pine; sons, Michael
(Kim) and Scott (Deanna);
grandsons, Joshua, Jacob and
Joseph; sister-in-law, Sharon
Pine and brother-in-law,
Thomas (Elaine) Pine.
He was predeceased by his
parents, Delina and Harvey;
mother-in-law, Jean Pine and
brother-in-law, Richard Pine.
Visitation will be held from 1
to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at

Mark C. Miller, 55, died
Thursday, July 23, 2009, at St.
John Hospital and Medical
Center in Detroit.
He was born March 18,1954,
in Detroit to Margaret and
LaVerne Miller and graduated
in 1973 from Brablec High
School in Roseville.
Since 1977 he owned Marco
Painters, serving residential
and commercial customers in
the Grosse Pointes and the surrounding
communities.
Mr. Miller appreciated muscle
cars and antique cars and
enjoyed fishing. He loved
Michigan's Upper Peninsula
and owned a cabin in St. Ignace
along the Straits of Mackinac.
He was a member of the

Woods resident Eleanor A.
"Norie" Zeock, 95, died
Saturday, July 18,2009.
She was born Feb. 2,1914, in
Baltimore, Md. to Ernest and
Alvena Uebersax. While growing
up, she worked in her parents'
business and attended
Goucher College. She married
George E. Zeock in 1942 and
had a 40-year storybook romance
until his death in 1982.
Mrs. Zeock was active in
church, enjoyed sailing, playing
golf and tennis. She also
played piano and her family
said she had a unique talent for
writing beautiful letters. She
made several trips to Europe by
ship to visit relatives in
Switzerland and obtained her
driver's license at an early age
— something unusual for a
young woman of that era.
Her family said Mrs. Zeock
Mark C. Miller
was generous, compassionate
and had a gentle and sweet, yet
spunky, disposition. She was
known for her beautiful blue
eyes and lovely smile and hair,
always appearing at least 20
years younger than her age.
During her lifetime,, Mrs.
Zeock witnessed much history
— six wars, the flu epidemic of
1919, the Great Depression and
many technological and scientific
advances. Mrs! Zeock
shared stories from her youth
with her family and Mends including
when she and her father
witnessed a victory parade
led by Gen. John Pershing riding
a white horse and wearing
a plume on his helmet. During
her final two years, it was a
great joy for her to correspond
occasionally with Dr. Oral
Roberts.
Her children said Mrs. Zeock
was a wonderful, selfless mother
who encouraged them to obtain
their college degrees and
pursue their careers and interests
and to whom she passed
along her fervent love of and
faith in God.
Mrs. Zeock is survived by her
son, George Jr. and his wife;
daughter, Mary; two granddaughters
and their husbands;
five great-grandchildren; two

Theresa Arnold, 88, died
Monday, July 27,2009. She was
the beloved wife of the late
Burlie "Red" Arnold, and is survived
by her loving son, Gene,
and daughter-in-law, Karen.
A native Detroiter who lived
in Grosse Pointe Woods the last
55 years, Mrs. Arnold enjoyed
the Garden Club, the church
craft group and assisting her
husband with lions Club functions.
A memorial service will be
held at 11 a.m..Friday, July 31,
at Grosse Pointe Woods

2007 Sewer Cleaning & TV Inspection, #180-100; EB Harper Resurfacing - Vernier to 8 Mile, #180-106,
EB Harper Resurfacing - Manchester to Vernier, #180-109; SRF Project Plan Preparation, #180-113 and
the 2009 Emergency Concrete Pavement Repair, #180-116. (5) approve payment in the amount of
$5,100.00 to Guardian Enterprises, Inc. for their assistance in repairs to the City's main sanitary line at
