Zembruski passed away<br />
Friday, May 1,2009.<br />
Born Helen Kidder <strong>in</strong><br />
W<strong>in</strong>dsor, Ontario, and raised <strong>in</strong><br />
Detroit, she graduated from St.<br />
Mart<strong>in</strong> Catholic High School <strong>in</strong><br />
1941. After graduation, she<br />
worked for the Internal<br />
Revenue Service and met and<br />
married William Crandall Jan.<br />
4, 1947 and moved to the<br />
Grosse Po<strong>in</strong>te area.<br />
Mrs. Crandall-Zembruski<br />
worked at Vanda Beauty<br />
Counselor <strong>in</strong> Detroit and at<br />
Jacobson's <strong>in</strong> Grosse Po<strong>in</strong>te.<br />
After her husband's retirement,<br />
the couple enjoyed spend<strong>in</strong>g<br />
time at their homes <strong>in</strong> Port<br />
Sanilac and Florida<br />
In 1994, Florida became her<br />
permanent home where she<br />
enjoyed tennis, bocce ball and<br />
walk<strong>in</strong>g. She also looked forward<br />
to the senior games <strong>in</strong> her<br />
community <strong>in</strong> which she participated<br />
and won several medals.<br />
After the death of her husband,<br />
William, she met and<br />
married Louis Zembruski and<br />
rema<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> Florida until she<br />
returned to Michigan <strong>in</strong> 2006.<br />
Mrs. Crandall-Zembruski is<br />
survived by her husband,<br />
Louis; daughters, Mary Kay<br />
Crandall, Suzanne (Brad)<br />
Bassett, Margaret (Emmett)<br />
Hannon and Maureen<br />
Crandall; sons, Michael<br />
(Margaret), David (Betty),<br />
Charles, Robert (Sheila),<br />
Patrick (Paula) and Matthew<br />
(Carol); brother, Earl Kidder;<br />
sister, Beverly Waller; 16 grandchildren<br />
and seven greatgrandchildren.<br />

Robert K. Roadstrum, 101,<br />
died peacefully Tuesday, June<br />
30, 2009, at Shorepo<strong>in</strong>te<br />
Nurs<strong>in</strong>g Center <strong>in</strong> St. Clair<br />
Shores. Mr. Roadstrum was<br />
born April 16, 1908, <strong>in</strong> Peoria,<br />
HI. to Clarence and Elizabeth<br />
Roadstrum.<br />
He graduated from Eastern<br />
High School <strong>in</strong> 1926. He was<br />
married to Florence Carlson for<br />
42 years until her pass<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />
1976. The follow<strong>in</strong>g year, Mr.<br />
Roadstrum became reacqua<strong>in</strong>ted<br />
with a high school crush,<br />
Blanche Hosie. They were married<br />
for 25 years until she died<br />
<strong>in</strong> 2001.<br />
Mr. Roadstrum's great passions<br />
<strong>in</strong> life were art and sail<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
After high school, he attended<br />
draw<strong>in</strong>g school and became<br />
a draftsman/illustrator. He.<br />
worked at Ross Roy<br />
Advertis<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>in</strong> the mid-<br />
1950s, opened an advertis<strong>in</strong>g<br />
bus<strong>in</strong>ess which he ran for 25<br />
years.<br />
As a child, Mr. Roadstrum<br />
was a "river rat," hang<strong>in</strong>g<br />
around the orig<strong>in</strong>al Bayview<br />
Yacht Club next to Water<br />
Works Park. He'd had a number<br />
of small boats, and as a 17year-old,<br />
earned a crew spot on<br />
the Calypso for the first<br />
Bayview to Mack<strong>in</strong>ac Island<br />
sailboat race held <strong>in</strong> 1925. He<br />
would compete <strong>in</strong> 48 more<br />
Mack<strong>in</strong>acs over his career.<br />
Mr. Roadstrum was a found<strong>in</strong>g<br />
member of the Old Goats<br />
Society — members sail<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />
25 or more Mack<strong>in</strong>ac races. He<br />
jo<strong>in</strong>ed Bayview <strong>in</strong> 1940 and<br />
bought his first boat shortly<br />
thereafter, a 26-foot Privateer,<br />
which he owned and raced for<br />
35 years. He became the unofficial<br />
"artist <strong>in</strong> residence" at<br />
Bayview, creat<strong>in</strong>g caricatures<br />
of each new Old Goat member.<br />
Mr. Roadstrum's second<br />
marriage <strong>in</strong> 1977 opened up<br />
another life for him — he<br />
bought his first house, now had<br />
children and grandchildren<br />
and bought a larger boat, a Cal<br />
36 "Goldigger," on which he<br />
sailed his first Mack<strong>in</strong>ac as an<br />
owner <strong>in</strong> 1978 at the age of 70.<br />
He had many characteristic<br />
expressions rendered <strong>in</strong> a gravelly<br />
voice. To Mr. Roadstrum,<br />
his lov<strong>in</strong>g family will say, "I'll<br />
see ya kid."<br />
Mr. Roadstrum is survived by<br />
a niece, Beth (Joe) Moran and<br />
nephew, Bill (L<strong>in</strong>da)<br />
Pankhurst. He also is survived<br />
by stepdaughter, Salty (V<strong>in</strong>ce)<br />
Giacobbe; stepson, Richard<br />
(Dede) Marsh and grandchildren,<br />
Jeff and John Giacobbe,<br />
Robert and Stephen Marsh and<br />
Jennifer Russell.<br />

Louis J. Fischer, 66, passed<br />
away peacefully surrounded by<br />
his lov<strong>in</strong>g family Friday, July<br />
24, 2009, after a courageous<br />
battle with cancer.<br />
After graduation from<br />
Lakeview High School <strong>in</strong> St.<br />
Clair Shores, Mr. Fischer jo<strong>in</strong>ed<br />
the United States Air Force and<br />
then was honorably discharged.<br />
He was employed <strong>in</strong><br />
the automotive leas<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustry,<br />
retir<strong>in</strong>g from Wheels, Inc. <strong>in</strong><br />
Chicago and VPSI <strong>in</strong> Troy.<br />
He was a lifetime parishioner<br />
of St. Clare of Montefalco<br />
Catholic Church <strong>in</strong> Grosse<br />
Po<strong>in</strong>te Park and Blessed Pope<br />
John XXHI Catholic Church <strong>in</strong><br />
Fort Myers, Fla.<br />
Among his many <strong>in</strong>terests,<br />
Mr. Fischer most enjoyed travel<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
golf and fish<strong>in</strong>g. He<br />
looked forward to w<strong>in</strong>ters <strong>in</strong><br />
Fort Myers and summers at<br />
Boyne Mounta<strong>in</strong> and especially<br />
enjoyed spend<strong>in</strong>g time with his<br />
beloved grandsons.<br />
He was a member of<br />
Gowanie Golf Club <strong>in</strong> Harrison<br />
Township and Old Hickory<br />
Golf and Country dub <strong>in</strong> Fort<br />
Myers.<br />
Mr. Fischer's family said he<br />
lived his life with a responsible<br />
hand, generous heart, ready<br />
smile, will<strong>in</strong>g spirit, and most of<br />
all, an irresistible charm.<br />
Mr. Fischer is survived by his<br />
beloved wife of 45 years,<br />
Carole, nee P<strong>in</strong>e; sons, Michael<br />
(Kim) and Scott (Deanna);<br />
grandsons, Joshua, Jacob and<br />

John Hospital and Medical<br />
Center <strong>in</strong> Detroit.<br />
He was born March 18,1954,<br />
<strong>in</strong> Detroit to Margaret and<br />
LaVerne Miller and graduated<br />
<strong>in</strong> 1973 from Brablec High<br />
School <strong>in</strong> Roseville.<br />
S<strong>in</strong>ce 1977 he owned Marco<br />
Pa<strong>in</strong>ters, serv<strong>in</strong>g residential<br />
and commercial customers <strong>in</strong><br />
the Grosse Po<strong>in</strong>tes and the surround<strong>in</strong>g<br />
communities.<br />
Mr. Miller appreciated muscle<br />
cars and antique cars and<br />
enjoyed fish<strong>in</strong>g. He loved<br />
Michigan's Upper Pen<strong>in</strong>sula<br />
and owned a cab<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> St. Ignace<br />
along the Straits of Mack<strong>in</strong>ac.<br />
He was a member of the<br />

"Norie" Zeock, 95, died<br />
Saturday, July 18,2009.<br />
She was born Feb. 2,1914, <strong>in</strong><br />
Baltimore, Md. to Ernest and<br />
Alvena Uebersax. While grow<strong>in</strong>g<br />
up, she worked <strong>in</strong> her parents'<br />
bus<strong>in</strong>ess and attended<br />
Goucher College. She married<br />
George E. Zeock <strong>in</strong> 1942 and<br />
had a 40-year storybook romance<br />
until his death <strong>in</strong> 1982.<br />
Mrs. Zeock was active <strong>in</strong><br />
church, enjoyed sail<strong>in</strong>g, play<strong>in</strong>g<br />
golf and tennis. She also<br />
played piano and her family<br />
said she had a unique talent for<br />
writ<strong>in</strong>g beautiful letters. She<br />
made several trips to Europe by<br />
ship to visit relatives <strong>in</strong><br />
Switzerland and obta<strong>in</strong>ed her<br />
driver's license at an early age<br />
— someth<strong>in</strong>g unusual for a<br />
young woman of that era.<br />
Her family said Mrs. Zeock<br />
Mark C. Miller<br />
was generous, compassionate<br />
and had a gentle and sweet, yet<br />
spunky, disposition. She was<br />
known for her beautiful blue<br />
eyes and lovely smile and hair,<br />
always appear<strong>in</strong>g at least 20<br />
years younger than her age.<br />
Dur<strong>in</strong>g her lifetime,, Mrs.<br />
Zeock witnessed much history<br />
— six wars, the flu epidemic of<br />
1919, the Great Depression and<br />
many technological and scientific<br />
advances. Mrs! Zeock<br />
shared stories from her youth<br />
with her family and Mends <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />
when she and her father<br />
witnessed a victory parade<br />
led by Gen. John Persh<strong>in</strong>g rid<strong>in</strong>g<br />
a white horse and wear<strong>in</strong>g<br />
a plume on his helmet. Dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
her f<strong>in</strong>al two years, it was a<br />
great joy for her to correspond<br />
occasionally with Dr. Oral<br />
Roberts.<br />
Her children said Mrs. Zeock<br />
was a wonderful, selfless mother<br />
who encouraged them to obta<strong>in</strong><br />
their college degrees and<br />
pursue their careers and <strong>in</strong>terests<br />
and to whom she passed<br />
along her fervent love of and<br />
faith <strong>in</strong> God.<br />
Mrs. Zeock is survived by her<br />
son, George Jr. and his wife;<br />
daughter, Mary; two granddaughters<br />
and their husbands;<br />
five great-grandchildren; two<br />

Burlie "Red" Arnold, and is survived<br />
by her lov<strong>in</strong>g son, Gene,<br />
and daughter-<strong>in</strong>-law, Karen.<br />
A native Detroiter who lived<br />
<strong>in</strong> Grosse Po<strong>in</strong>te Woods the last<br />
55 years, Mrs. Arnold enjoyed<br />
the Garden Club, the church<br />
craft group and assist<strong>in</strong>g her<br />
husband with lions Club functions.<br />
