PRIVATE COLLECTION SHIRAZ
(SÜDAFRIKA)
JP4.5/5: Leider keine Beschreibung. The highflying
aristocrat of the Polkadraai Hills maintains
impressive standards year after year, under the guidance
of veteran cellarmaster Nico van der Merwe,
who has made every vintage since their inception in
1990. F: IN-BON; E: sehr gut. (89628)
SYRAH MERINDOL
(SÜDAFRIKA)
JP4.5/5: ‘04’s alluring red fruit, smoked beef
bouquet ushers in poised palate refreshed by crisp
acidity; tight focused tannins fruit concentration
masked 15% alc. Delicious now, should further
improve with cellaring. F: IN; E: sehr gut. (896249)
SIMONSIG TIARA 2003 0,75L
(SÜDAFRIKA)
JP4/5: Excellent Bordeaux-style blend. ‘03’s cabernet
(87%), merlot partnership shows expected cassis
dominance; is given extra dimension by oak’s
cedar, spice infusion. Elegantly structured with firm
but ripe tannins. F: IN; E: sehr gut. (896252)
MALABAR
(SÜDAFRIKA)
Der Spitzenwein des Weinguts besteht aus 72%
Shiraz, 11% Pinotage, 11% Mourvedre und etwas
Grenache und Viognier. JP4.5/5, WS90: A tasty
mix of crushed red and blackberry fruits, with sweet
bacony toast followed by hints of tar, vanilla and
cocoa on the lengthy finish. There’s a nice lingering
note of freshly ground spice.
SPRINGFIELD ESTATE 2001 0,75L
THE WORK OF TIME
(SÜDAFRIKA)
40% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc, 22% Cabernet
Sauvignon. JP4.5/5, TAN88+: Plum, smoke and truffle
aromas, with floral and vegetal nuances. Then
smooth and smoky in the mouth, with flavors of
cherry, leather, tobacco and fresh herbs. Shows a tart
cranberry note but does not come across as green.
An intriguing, still-unfolding wine that may yet merit a
higher score. F: IN; E: sehr gut. (896259)
STEYTLER PINOTAGE 2003 0,75L
(SÜDAFRIKA)
JP4.5/5, TAN90, WS86 für 1998: A fruit bomb,
bright and buoyed by light tannins wrapped around
a core of raspberry and wild berry flavors. On the
lean side, this should go well with simple grilled
food. F: IN; E: sehr gut. (89625)
VISION CAPE BLEND
(SÜDAFRIKA)
JP5/5, WS87: Mature but still lively, with currant,
sanguine, coffee and prune notes that give way to
a tangy mineral note on the finish. For fans of the
mature, claret style. Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage
and Merlot. F: IN; E: sehr gut. (896211)
THELEMA 2004 0,75L
CABERNET SAUVIGNON
(SÜDAFRIKA)
JP4.5/5, WS90: Subtle at first, this slowly opens to
show alluring mint, cocoa, black currant and fig flavors
supported by ripe but fine-grained tannins. The
long, supple finish lets it all hang together nicely.
JP4/5, TAN88, WS90: Silky and fine-grained,
showing lovely mint and cocoa powder aromas,
with fine acidity and red plum and currant fruit followed
by more mint, sage and tobacco on the finish.
CABERNET SAUVIGNON
(SÜDAFRIKA)
JP4.5/5, WS88: Mature, but still has some heft,
with loamy tannins driving cedar, coffee, black currant
and bittersweet cocoa notes. A solid example
of the style. I don’t think cellaring will tame this
brawny red any further. F: BON; E: gut. (896245)
HEITZ 1989 0,75L
MARTHA’S VINEYARD CABERNET S.
(KALIFORNIEN, USA)
WS90: Wonderful Martha’s. Chocolate-covered
cherry with mint character, well focused; not the
depth or extra dimensions of a great year, but quite
complete on its own terms. F: IN; E: gut.
RAR. WS88: Intense, with minty currant and
mocha flavors that are rich, tannic and
concentrated. Youthful, yet the tannins are dense,
earthy and chewy.
MARTHA’S VINEYARD CABERNET S.
(KALIFORNIEN, USA)
RP95+: This was a spectacular performance from
this hallowed vineyard as well as one of Napa Valley’s
great historic terroirs. The old eucalyptus-filled
aromatics of a young Martha’s Vineyard are
nowhere to be found as the 2001 is dominated by
fruit and earth. Full-bodied and powerful with
superb integration of wood, tannin, acidity and
alcohol, this large-scaled red is capable of three or
more decades of cellaring.
