When I took over as President in 2010, a former Board
Member suggested that the Chapter split up the Board
meeting into two components – the Committee meeting at
4:00 p.m. and the Board meeting at 5:00 p.m. The Committee
meeting handles all Committee business and the Board
meeting discusses true Board business. In the beginning
the Committee meeting discussions involved too much
Board business, but as we were able to adjust the content
of the Committee meeting to only Committee business, the
concept works well. Timing the discussion at both meetings
to finish on time remains a problem. The Vice President
runs the Committee meeting and the President runs the
Board meeting. The Officer not running the meeting is the
time-keeper for the other. Once we begin to complete most
meetings on time, the concept of a Committee meeting and
a Board meeting will be an excellent choice.
In 2010 we instituted the concept of a greeter to ensure that
South Bay
Last year was another outstanding year for the South Bay
Chapter. The first thing that comes to mind is the outstanding
leadership of this Chapter. This is my twelfth year as a Member
of the South Bay Chapter, and my fourth year at the helm. I
can’t say enough about this group of volunteers.
We launched our own website to try and achieve better
communication with our Members, and to keep them better
informed about the local Chapter as well as CSEA and NAEA,
which is especially needed during the dark months.
Education is again one of our priorities. We had our regular
dinner meetings, and we continued our round table discus-

new Members or prospective Members attending for the first
time would be appropriately recognized when they arrived.
A Member of the Chapter offered to do the job and that has
worked out very well. She recognizes the new person, meets the
individual, and ensures that he/she gets introduced around.
The Membership Committee and Chair are a very important
part of a Chapter. New procedures were instituted for
the Committee. New Members are called by a Committee
member or Committee Chair to welcome them to the Chapter
and to a meeting at Chapter expense. New welcome packets
are sent to the new Member before they attend a meeting.
The new Members are also provided assistance in the process
of going online to sign up for meetings, educational events,
etc. New Members really seem to appreciate the personal
touch and the help we provide them in the beginning.

Practitioners Seminar, as well as our annual Last Chance
Seminar. For the first time ever we had a scaled-down version
of the Tax Practice Management Workshop.
We have decided on a slate of Officers for next year and I’m
confident that our Chapter is in good hands going forward.
We are anticipating an outstanding year for South Bay Chapter
and look forward to doing our part to add value to CSEA.
