Dr.Michael Heniser,DO, is motivated<br />
by a desire to make meaningful<br />
connections with people. His job as<br />
a family medicine and obstetrics<br />
provider at the Community Health<br />
Center gives him ample opportunity<br />
to fulfill this mission. “Medicine<br />
allows me to make a difference,”<br />
said Dr. Heniser.<br />
Dr. Heniser practices family medicine<br />
because of his diverse interests. “I<br />
want to help people in as many ways<br />
as possible,” he said. Practicing<br />
obstetrics, he explained, allows him<br />
to be part of one of life’s most deeply<br />
moving and meaningful moments.<br />
“When you lay that baby on mom’s<br />
chest for the first time, it is a natural<br />
high. At that moment, there’s no<br />
better place to be.”<br />
In 2007 Dr. Heniser and his wife<br />
Becky, who teaches the third grade,<br />
chose to live and work on <strong>Mount</strong><br />
<strong>Desert</strong> <strong>Island</strong> because both the <strong>Hospital</strong><br />
and the <strong>Island</strong> were an ideal fit.<br />
“This place offers a perfect balance<br />
between professional pursuits and<br />
lifestyle,” he said.<br />
For Dr. Heniser, whether caring for<br />
a neighbor or delivering a baby, the<br />
connections he makes with his<br />
patients and with his community give<br />
his job special meaning. “Everybody<br />
has a passion, and making a difference<br />
in people’s health is what drives me.”<br />
