Forbes Celebrates its Latest Arrival

Calling All 5th and
6th Grade Artists!
Forbes Health Foundation has officially
kicked-off its Art for Heart Contest for any
student in 5th or 6th grade to help build
greater community awareness of healthy
living. The theme for the art contest is
Celebrating a Healthy Life. Any student
in 5th or 6th grade is invited to participate.
Three winning artists will receive a $100
United States Series EE Savings Bond.
The top six to eight winning entries will be
featured on note card sets made available
through the Foundation. The deadline for
submissions is September 27th. Entry forms
can be found on the Foundation Web site at
www.forbeshealthfoundation.org

More than 200 people attended the special
ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate The
Western Pennsylvania Hospital – Forbes
Regional Campus’ latest delivery - the new
Women's and Infants’ Care Center. The
$5.5 million labor, delivery, recovery and
postpartum facility offers new families quality,
state-of-the-art, comprehensive care in a
homelike setting.
The employees of Eat'n Park Hospitality
Group made a generous $100,000 gift to
the Center's newborn nursery to honor the
memory of one of their colleagues, Diana
Tomko, whose daughter Lisa Tomko, RN,
is an ICU nurse at Forbes.
Baby Steps Program Supports Obstetrical
Services at Forbes There are few times in life more special than the arrival
of a new baby. The Hospital now offers new parents and
grandparents the opportunity to commemorate the birth
of their little one with a place on the new Baby Steps wall.
For a donation of $145, the baby’s footprint, name, birth
weight and date of birth will be placed on a ceramic tile
and featured on the Baby Steps display in our new
Women’s and Infants’ Care Center. Donors will also
receive a duplicate keepsake tile with display stand.
For babies born prior to the start of this program,
the Foundation will scan your baby’s footprint from the copy you have at home, or a generic
footprint may be substituted. Please call Forbes Health Foundation at 412-858-4472 for

Proceeds from this program will benefit Hospital obstetrical services.

Anyone?
The sixth annual
Forbes Health
Foundation Golf
Classic will take place
on Monday, Sept. 24 at Longue Vue Club in
Verona. Registration begins at 10 a.m.,
followed by lunch until 11:45 a.m. and a
shotgun start at noon. The day concludes
with cocktails and dinner beginning at
5:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Ed Dardanell
Heart and Vascular Center at The Western
Pennsylvania Hospital – Forbes Regional
Campus, which is slated to open in early

Spotlight on Caring
Honors Caregivers

The Spotlight on Caring program honors
caregivers who have touched the lives of
our patients and families. The program
was inspired by the story of Tim S., a
young father of four who spent two weeks
in the Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit with
Legionnaire’s Disease. Tim’s father was so
grateful for the care his son received that
he wrote a poem of thanks to the ICU
staff. We encourage other patients to
share their stories through the Spotlight
on Caring program. Honorees will receive
a letter of appreciation and will be eligible
