Wyoming Police Department Annual Report WYPD 2002 Motor Vehicle Defined Motor Vehicle Offense Data Motor Vehicle Theft 10 Year Trend 1993-2002 Defined as the theft or attempted theft of a motor vehicle, this offense category includes the stealing of automobiles, buses, trucks, snowmobiles, motorcycles, motor scooters, etc. The definition excludes the taking of a motor vehicle for temporary use by those persons having lawful access. • During 2002, 244 motor vehicle thefts were reported to the Wyoming Police Department. • Based upon a population of 70,000, the adjusted motor vehicle theft rate for the City of Wyoming was 349 per 100,000 inhabitants. • The 2001 national average motor vehicle theft rate for cities outside metropolitan areas was 205.5 per 100,000 inhabitants. Wyoming Police Department Annual Report WYPD 2002 Arson Defined Arson Offense Data Arson 10 Year Trend 1993-2002 Arson is defined by the Uniform Crime Reporting Program as any willful or malicious burning or attempt to burn, with or without intent to defraud a dwelling house, public building, motor vehicle or aircraft, personal property of another, etc. Only fires determined through investigation to have been willfully or maliciously set are classified as arsons. Fires of suspicious or unknown origins are excluded. • During 2002, 17 cases of arson were reported to the Wyoming Police Department. • Based upon a population of 70,000, the adjusted arson rate for the City of Wyoming was 24.2 per 100,000 inhabitants. • The 2001 national average arson rate for cities outside metropolitan areas was 32.1 per 100,000 inhabitants.
