EQA Circulation Summary
Dr Les Davidson provided a summary of circulation W of the Yorkshire General
Histopathology EQA.

Circulation W – Participation
The circulation ran from 19 th September to 17 th October 2011 and 14 laboratories
took part in the EQA. Dr Davidson reported that 83 out of 85 participants submitted
responses.
Slide Sets
Dr Davidson reported that three slide sets from circulation W were still to be returned
to Emma Johnson. The laboratories that had not returned the slide sets were York,
Path Links and Calderdale.
Agreement of diagnosis of the cases
All ten of the cases in circulation W were discussed by the group and the following
decisions were made:
Case 400 – Leave all.
Case 401 – Leave all.
Case 402 – Merge 1 and 2. Leave 3.
Case 403 – Leave all.
Case 404 – Leave all.
Case 405 – Case was thrown out.
Case 406 – Merge 1, 2 and 3.
Case 407 – Merge 1 and 3. Leave 2.
Case 408 – Merge 1, 2, 3 and 5. Leave 5, 6 and 7.
Case 409 – Merge 1, 2, 3 and 5. Leave 4, 6, 8 and 9.
The final results will be circulated when these amendments have been made.
Educational Cases
There was one educational case in circulation W, which was presented by Dr
Alexander Barr. The specimen was from a cyst, right upper eyelid and the diagnosis
was malignant eccrine hidradenoma.

Slides for EQA year 2012
Participants were informed that the scheme required cases for the Autumn
circulation (circulation X). The laboratories allocated to submit slides in 2012 are:
� Doncaster
� Dewsbury
� Barnsley
Any Other Business
It was announced that Dr Davidson’s term as Scheme Organiser was ending at the
end of the year, and Emma Johnson and the attendees thanked Dr Davidson for all
his help with running the scheme. The Scheme Organiser position is to be advertised
to the Organising Committee members on 5 th December 2011 and the participants
will be informed of the successful candidate in the new year.
