CORNER The best way to start out 2009 is by making sure you know how much we appreciate your
hard work and the dedication to customer service that helped us have a very successful
2008! You have been and will continue to be an important part of Kinney’s success,
both last year and this year as well. The Board of Directors has approved our 2009 Fiscal
Budget and Business Plans, and together, we have a long list of “things to do” this year!
PRESIDENT’S
2
It’s Your Kinney…
Perhaps the biggest item on that list that we must all focus on is finding more ways to
generate additional sales!
With the economy being what it is, at the national, state and local level, we all need to concentrate
our efforts into adding more sales, and at the same time make sure our spending patterns are in
alignment with our sales.
For some of you, your positions in the company have an obvious and direct link to sales. As
pharmacists and pharmacy techs, you know you can increase sales every time you go the extra mile
to fill one additional script. As a cashier, you know that you can increase sales when you provide
outstanding customer service that keeps those customers coming back.
And yet for others of you, you may be asking, “My job isn’t directly linked to sales…. so how
can I help?”
Let me answer that question by asking another question. Have you ever bought an item in a
grocery, convenience or department store that you could have purchased at Kinney’s?
Ever been in a grocery store and thrown paper towels, spaghetti sauce, coffee etc… into your
cart? Ever grab a soda and a bag of chips at the gas station? Ever pick up that extra pair of
needle nose pliers at the local hardware store? My guess is we have all done that.
In 2008, our employee owners spent $4.6 million dollars in sales at Kinney’s. In doing so, they
also saved themselves $500,000 through their employee discount!
Let’s look at this year. We currently have 2700+ employees. If every employee took
$10/week that they would have spent someplace else… like a grocery store, hardware
store, pet store, convenience store etc., and bought those same items in their Kinney
store… it would generate an additional $1.4 million in sales! That’s a lot of
money!
Now we’re not asking you to buy something you wouldn’t normally buy, or to
spend money that you can’t afford. What we are asking is that you shop Kinney first!
Make Kinney’s the first stop on your grocery list!
After all… it is your Kinney!
