Public meetings are scheduled
in January to discuss the provincial
department of education's
new core curriculum, District 64
school board announces.
Each school is to be asked to
hold meetings, to which parents
will be invited.
Initial discussion of the schedule
of meetings will be held at
the first board meeting on January
6.
Woman
struck
by bottle
On Mayne Island December
18 at 8 pm, Mrs. Marie Kelp was
driving her car when she was
stopped by a group of youths.
She was struck by a beer
bottle. Extent of her injuries is
not known.
The assailants were from Burnaby
and police are still investigating
the incident. Charges are
contemplated.
Board to
consider
new bus
District 64 school board may
have to consider the purchase of
another new school bus next year
for Salt Spring Island.
This was indicated by Trustee
Pearl Brau, transportation committee
chairman.
Trustees agreed to view a
84-passenger bus at Duncan. The
present three school buses are
capable of accommodating 72
students.
Refuse to
pay fees
District 64 School board has
declined to authorize payment of j
architect fees, as submitted by*
Sager & Marshall, Victoria architects.
The architect fees related to
renovation work at the Salt Spring
Elementary school.
School board cited several
instances of "failure in performance
of responsibility in connection
with certain aspects of the
renovations, such as inadequate
soil survey, heating and drainage
problems.
