The World Heart Federation is a non-governmental
achieve a longer and better life through prevention and
control of heart disease and stroke, with a focus on low-
AWARENESS BUIlDING
To raise public awareness of heart disease and stroke,
the World Heart Federation develops campaigns and
events. With its members and other partners, it encourages
individuals and institutions to adopt heart-healthy habits
and plays a major role in ensuring that governments
implement policies for cardiovascular disease prevention.
The World Heart Federation is comprised of 196 medical
societies and heart foundations from more than 100
countries, as well as continental members covering the
regions of Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe.
Recognized by the World Health Organization, the World
Heart Federation is its leading non-governmental partner
stroke, advocates for policy changes, develops projects to
educate communities and patients about reducing the risk
of cardiovascular disease and shares medical and population
World Heart Day is our most important awareness building
event. It promotes preventive measures to reduce the
incidence of cardiovascular disease worldwide. Today,
World Heart Day is actively celebrated in more than 100
countries and on all continents. This global event, which
takes place on the last Sunday of September and focuses
on a specific theme each year, involves a wide range of
activities, including physical exercise sessions, lectures,
shows, walking tours, healthy cooking competitions,
and health risk assessments including the testing of
cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose levels, along
with BMI and waist circumference measurement.
The Go Red for Women campaign raises awareness
of heart disease and stroke as the number one cause of
death of women worldwide. It encourages the medical
profession to include heart disease and stroke prevention
as a core component of women’s health and urges women
to recognize their risks and to reduce them by adopting
appropriate lifestyle changes.
