Ed Hirschler was more than a historian: he lived histoxy, having talked with people who
had fought in the civil war and his family having fed Indians in their home in the
Cherokee strip. In fact, when he was young, he wanted to be an Indian! He remembered
farming with horses, the first Model T car his dad attempted to drive, the sinking of the
Titanic, and having to register for the draft in both the first and second world wars. Born
before the Wright Brothers’ first flight, he flew across the Atlantic Ocean and observed
the first space flight and man on the moon via television. He adapted to most modem
conveniences, although he never felt comfortable using the computer.
Ed Hirsehier was more than a man of faith: he was a pillar of faith in his church and in
the communities in which he lived. His life was centered around Ins Mennonite beliefs
and his relationship with the Lord.
