In today’s mightily visual culture, news travel by images and affect us immediately.
Photojournalists help us understand the world. One of the most prominent displays
of this genre: the World Press Photo contest and exhibition, supporting quality photojournalism
and welcoming over a hundred thousand photographs for the annual
contest for 55 years. One location for the travelling exhibition of the awarded photos
is Budapest. Interested in learning
details from behind the scenes? Listen
to Tamás Révész, award-winning
photographer, member of the jury
and organizer of the Hungarian World
Press Photo exhibit, who’ll share some
thoughts on how digital technology and
an ever-transforming media affect photojournalism
too. The lecture is part of
the monthly series of intriguing presentations
in English by experts from various
Who would have thought – this will be the 21st Night of Art Collectors! The secret
of its popularity? The event’s constant renewal: each time the audience is
surprised with extras and novelties. And this year will be no exception. Eighteen
galleries will be holding exhibition openings and guided tours, hosting concerts
and lectures on April 12th, between 5 p.m. and midnight, and all events can be
attended free of charge! This year, contemporary artists show what they got:
László Sallay at the Bardoni Interieur, a kind of ‘best-of’ exhibition of Kálmán
Makláry at Melange Gallery, Csilla Bondor’s collection of installations at the
Sonja Pintér Contemporary Gallery (with a tour guided by the artist herself!)
and the fi nissage of Márton
Romvári’s exhibition at the
Prestige Gallery. Of course,
there’s a lot more – check
out the event’s homepage
for more information!
ONE NIGHT, THREE CHOREOGRAPHIES
Compagnia EgriBianco Danza, an Italian dance company led by one of the
most important Italian choreographers of our times, Susanna Egri has arrived
in Budapest, performing three dramatic pieces at the National Dance Theater!
Searching for peace - Da Nobis Pacem shows human beings struggling for
absolute truth in the hope to fi nd peace. Les Noces on the other hand explores
the feeling of anxiety of a couple
who are obliged to get married, with
a critical eye on forced marriage still
existing in many places of the world.
In Amor di Mundo, a piece recently
premiered in Torino, choreographer
Raphael Bianco focuses on the soul
and voice of a country which despite
the diffi culties of life, still has hope for
the future – to the enchanting melodies
of Cesaria Evora.
