Coastalaire:
The year is half over and I’m still
hanging in there with the Coastalaire. A
little more time would be nice but one
I’ve gotten pictures from various members for
some events and believe me that helps as I’m not able
to attend every event.
Bob Kitamura for example, supplied several pic-
tures of taken at the Long Beach Grand Prix with cap-
tions. We’ve had these in the last two issues of Coasta-
laire.. Thanks Bob for the supply.
This month I’m running a bit behind due mostly to
my work schedule. As I type this I’ve got 4 days (eve-
nings) to get the newsletter to the printer. Yes, we have
a printer who also mails out the hard copy newsletters.
It is real benefit (to me at least) to have the news-
letter on the web. All I have to do is send an email with
a link to web-posted Coastalaire.
In that regard, I heard from one member (at the
New Member BBQ this last Saturday) that when he
prints the Coastalaire off the web, it DOES NOT print
the first two pages. If you’ve had the same problem
please email me at porsche@surfari.net and let me
know. If you found a cure for the problem, let me know
that as well, that I may help a fellow member.
Almost any weather on the Central Coast is
Porsche weather, but this last weekend raised doubts.
There is a popular meteorologist in our area named
Lindsey who report Friday that we had record tempera-
tures. The idea that Los Osos could get to 110 degrees,
and the Diablo Canyon front gate in Avila Beach 115, is
almost surreal. I hope all our members found a way to
survive that uncommonly hot few days.
Membership:
PCA National reports that are sent to me,
show that the CCCR has presently, 224 mem-
bers (read that as memberships) which include
224 primary members, 171 Affiliate members
for a total number of persons of 395.
The term affiliate in this case includes
both family members (spouse, child, nephew,
niece, grandmother, etc.) and affiliate members
which are simply NOT- family members.
These other-than-primary members are
this: when the application is submitted there
is the person listed as primary member and
a choice of either one family member OR an
affiliiate (sometimes referred to as associate)
member..
Recently, I was asked why PCA calls them
affiliate members. The thought here was the
loss of identity. So why do they have both fam-
ily and affiliate members.. Why don’t they just
have one name (my words here - like second
member). The last question, I cannot answer.
However, I’ve asked the difference in the family
and affiliate member.
I was told one difference is that an affiliate
member cannot be President of a Region or
higher, like Zone or PCA office holder.
The reason is that the affiliate does not
have a legal tie (normally) to the car. The car is
a requirement to the membership so all things
tie to that serial number.
You might change affiliate members but
changing spouses ......well.
