elcome to the 2012 Summer
edition of the HK Newsletter!
A special welcome is
extended to our graduating classes in the
fall of 2011 and spring of 2012, creating
our newest cohort of HK Alumni. We hope
that you enjoy the latest edition, and encourage
you to send us updates on your
successes to include in future editions.
This Summer edition of the HK Newsletter
is especially exciting, as this is the inaugural
year of the electronic version. From this
point forward alumni will receive their HK
Newsletter via email. It will also be available
on the Human Kinetics Website and
on the University of Windsor Kinesiology
Facebook page, so please share this information
with any HK Alumni who we may
not have current email addresses for.

Dean’s Message
A
fter spending 12 wonderful
years in North Wales, it is certainly
an uplifting experience
to see the blue skies and smiling faces of
Windsor.
My first year as Dean of Human Kinetics
has been filled with excitement that
surpasses my expectations. As we were
finding our way around Windsor during our
first week in the city, it became very apparent
how highly regarded and popular
Human Kinetics is in the community. The
principle by which we integrate activities
puis, Ms. Pat McTaggart, and Ms. Cathy
Greenwell—the HK Secretaries whose hard
work and dedication make this Newsletter
possible. Throughout the Newsletter you
will have the chance to read about our current
Faculty, Alumni and Students. Special
features in this edition congratulate Dr.
Marge Holman on her upcoming retirement
and Dr. Dick Moriarty on his 60th year at the
University of Windsor. Additionally, we celebrate
the recent successes within the Department
at the Celebration of Excellence
in Research, Scholarship and Creative
in research, teaching and community service
in an environment that is enjoyable to
work and study is clearly the hallmark of
our outstanding reputation. The success
of our athletics teams and campus recreation
programs is staggering and is receiv-

This year we also welcomed Dr. Michael
Khan to the Faculty of Human Kinetics in
the position of Dean. You will have the
chance to learn about some of the new
initiatives that he has created, as well as
some of the most loved HK events that
he has maintained. Students, Faculty and
Staff continue to reap the benefits of the
new facilities. If you still have yet to tour
our new building, labs, and classrooms, we
welcome you to stop in for a visit, or join us
during the HK Alumni Weekend this fall.

As the new Dean of HK, I look forward
to building on the success nurtured by Dr.
Bob Boucher as we continue to merge the
talents and resources in Kinesiology and
Athletics and Recreation Services. Most
importantly, the quality of our graduates
and their ability to pursue successful careers
is our number one priority.
It has been a pleasure meeting many of
you in my first year and I look forward to
exciting times ahead during my tenure as
Dean.
