Max McDaniel, Chief Marketing Officer, Display Business Group, Applied Materials Max McDaniel is the Chief Marketing Officer of Applied Materials Display Business Group. He has held engineering, marketing and financial management roles in high-tech equipment companies for over 20 years. Mr. McDaniel has been at Applied Materials since 2003. Prior to joining Applied Materials he served over twelve years at Watkins- Johnson, a Semiconductor and LCD equipment manufacturer, where he worked in R&D, engineering, and marketing roles. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. Company Summary: Since 1993 Applied Materials Display Group (AKT) has been a leader in display technology and a top equipment supplier to the TFT-LCD industry. We provide PECVD, PVD, and test equipment for manufacturing display thin-film transistors (a-Si, LTPS and metal oxide), color filters and touch panels. Veritas et Visus Display Standard – Special Edition June 2012 Bruce Berkoff, Chief Marketing Officer, CBRITE Bruce Berkoff is a display veteran for over 2 decades, having been EVP/CMO of LG Philips LCD for over 6 years, (and later on the Board of Directors of LG Display), helping to launch some of the world’s largest TFT LCD fabs and create broad new markets like those for wide screen LCD monitors and LCD TVs, as well as helping to take LPL public. Mr. Berkoff was also CMO & strategy officer of the Energy and Display Systems division at Applied Materials, and has held senior management and marketing position in companies from Ascent Solar to Philips Components, and is also currently Chairman of the LCD TV Association. Mr. Berkoff is well-known for his visionary keynote addresses and panel chairmanships and other roles at display industry events. Mr. Berkoff holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in physics and biophysics from Princeton and the University of California, Berkeley, respectively, and has display-related patents both granted and pending in the U.S. and China. Company Summary: Large scale commercialization of high Pixel Per Inch (ppi) TFT-LCD or any type of AMOLED displays depends on the successful development of an economical and technically suitable backplane technology. Currently, backplanes for these advanced displays are fabricated with a process using Low Temperature Poly-Silicon (LTPS). The fabrication of LTPS backplanes involves a complex and costly process, as well as expensive new equipment. LTPS also suffers from inherent pixel-to-pixel non-uniformity and thereby unacceptable defects in the image, or the use of many more transistors per pixel (raising the cost again). This nonuniformity is caused by the fact that the size of the Silicon grains in LTPS is comparable to the TFT channel width. CBRITE has developed a new metal oxide display backplane technology that requires minimal new CAPEX, if any, is scalable and delivers high performance displays today, essentially overcoming ALL of the shortcomings of LTPS technology for high ppi TFT-LCDs and/or AMOLED applications. What do you think is the single most important factor that is currently causing the displays industry to change? We believe the single most important factor causing the $100B display industry to change today is the necessity of a high performing and cost effective new backplane technology for AMFPDs (whether they be AMLCDs or AMOLEDs). What the world needs is LTPS performance at aSi prices. Everyone is trying to make 1 type of metal oxide work to try and fit this need, IGZO, but only CBRITE has a developed a unique set of processes and materials to deliver far better performance at the best possible costs and lowest CAPEX, thus bringing the industry a giant step toward this new goal, and a thus new roadmap for the next 10-20 years. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
