Dear Parents and Carers,
Deptford Green has been a busy place this summer! Along with packing
up the old building and putting the finishing touches to the new, there has also
been a visit of our guests from St Kizito in Uganda and we hosted a very successful
International Youth Conference during the Olympics. On the 23rd August there
were many yells of delight and a few tears as our Year 11 students got their results.
You may have seen that nationally results have come down this year,
as grade borders have gone up, so we were pleased that our results actually
improved. We had higher than ever numbers of students who achieved the top
grades. Two thirds of our students achieved 5+ A* - C, just under half achieved 5+
A*- Cs including English and Maths and nearly a third got 10+ A*-Cs. The progress
made by our students puts us comfortably in the top 10% of schools nationwide.
We are confident that our new Year 11 are going to perform even better
than this and their progress so far suggests they could be the best performing
year group the school has ever had. We are sure that they and all Deptford Green
students will be making the most of the wonderful opportunities afforded by the
new building and our excellent staff.
Our new sixth form (DGI) is open now, and is proving to be very popular.
DGI students are also taking on the important role of School Leaders in our new
House structure. Impressive banners for each House now hang proudly in the foyer
of the building, symbolising the aspirations of the House.
There are so many features of the new school we would like to share with you, so
do please come and visit us at one of our Open Events (details on the back page).
We look forward to seeing you then.
