HOA New Resident
Welcome Reception
Monday, April 23 at 3 p.m. in the Social Hall
Join the HOA for a special reception for all residents who
moved in after January 1, 2012. Come meet your neighbors and
club and class representatives who will be on hand to answer
questions and provide information about events and activities.
Meet key staff members that can help acclimate you to Valencia
Reserve living. There is no cost for this event, but reservations

HOA Mother’s Day
Celebration!
Sunday, May 13 at 11:30 a.m. in the Social Hall
Join us for a very special brunch in the Social Hall with Larry
Brendler playing piano favorites. Enjoy a special menu from
Old Florida Catering including Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas as
you arrive with fine linens and upscale tableware. The extensive
menu includes: Platters of Whitefish Salad, Tuna Salad and
Nova Lox on each table. A buffet with assorted bagels and
Bialys, a chef attended omelet station with assorted veggies,
nova, bacon, ham and cheeses, and cheese blintzes with sour
cream and blueberry sauce. Finish with delicious Russian coffee
cake and sugar free cakes for dessert. Quench your thirst with
iced tea, coffee and hot tea. After the sumptuous brunch, dance
and sing along to some of your favorites! This wonderful
afternoon to celebrate Mom is only $27 per person. Drop checks

Stars and Stripes Forever! Grab some sunscreen and a
towel and meet us at the pool for an afternoon of great
food, fun and music. Old Florida Catering will provide
a great BBQ including Kosher Hebrew National Plump
and Juicy Hot Dogs, Black Angus Hamburgers, Veggie
Burgers, BBQ Chicken, Ribs, Corn on the Cobb, Salads,
Beans, and Apple Cobbler. Also included are soda,
iced tea, lemonade and complimentary beer! Elite
Entertainment will provide music for your enjoyment
along with fun games with prizes awarded. The cost is $16
per person. Drop checks payable to the VR HOA at the
Box Office by May 18. A minimum number of reservations
are required for this event.

SPECIAL HOA MEETING
Tuesday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Social Hall
GL Homes has submitted 5 Development Order Amendments,
2 Rezoning Applications and a Conditional Use Application on
February 15th. They are tentatively scheduled to be discussed at
the June or July public hearing agenda by the Palm Beach County
Board of County Commissioners. All applications are associated
with the proposed Charter School which is located on the north
side of Boynton Beach Blvd. just west of Lyons Road and a future
Valencia project to be located at the end of Acme Dairy Road. The
Amestoy Development Parcel is also removing 149 dwelling units
from the previously approved plan from 785 to 636 single family
dwelling units. Canyon Lakes, Canyon Isles and Canyon Springs all
have Development Order Amendments submitted to swap preserve
parcels in order to create the new development parcel for “Valencia
Assemblage.” GL Homes and representatives of the Charter School
will explain all applications and answer questions. No reservations
are required.

Thanks to the residents who volunteered as ushers at the recent
Entertainment Showcase hosted at Valencia Reserve for William Clare
Entertainment. Over 1400 people enjoyed nine great acts in our Social
Hall at the two shows! Shown below are Harriet Moskowitz and Evelyn

Bridge Club ~ This club is a beehive of activity with duplicate

brush up lessons every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. and can set you up with

Chavurah Club ~ The Chavurah friendship circle has been

Cinema Club ~ If you love movies and enjoy discussing them, then

Cultural Performing Arts ~ Our 2012-2013 program includes

Current Events Club ~ We meet on the second and fourth

Room. The April 12 meeting will feature Dave Aronberg, Special
Prosecutor, Prescription Drug Trafficking who is a candidate for State
Attorney. He will be speaking on making Palm Beach County safer. Our
April 26 meeting will feature Maria Sachs, State Senator who will give
us an update on this past legislative session. Our May 10 meeting will
feature three current topics. On May 24, Supervisor of Elections Susan
Bucher will explain the changes in the election law and preparing for the

Men’s Softball Team ~ The Valencia Reserve Men’s Softball
Team, sponsored by Massimo’s Italian Restaurant in Canyon Town
Center, remains in first place in the Palm Beach Senior Community
Softball League with a 2 game lead over Valencia Falls. The
championship game is scheduled for Sunday, April 1 at 9 a.m. at
Caloosa Park in Boynton Beach. Experienced softball players who

3D Art Class
Get in on the latest art craze at Valencia Reserve. This art form
doesn’t require natural artistic ability. A three-hour class is being
offered on Fridays at 1 p.m. in the Arts and Crafts Room. The cost

Beginner/Refresher Bridge Class
This class is offered by ACBL certified instructor Marilyn Kroll on

Beginner/Refresher Canasta
Learn how to play Canasta or come take a refresher from two expert
instructors – Harriette Lion and Rhoda Bagen. The class will be

Beginner/Refresher Poker &
Pinochle
Valencia Reserve Resident Lou Orenstein has

for free. The classes are for beginners and
those needing a refresher. Classes will be held

Ceramics/Greenware Class
This class is offered every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in

Yoga
Yoga is a gentle way of moving and breathing to increase energy,
balance, focus and relaxation. The untraditional postures include
standing, sitting and lying down. This class is offered on Monday
mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the Aerobics Room.
Zumba
A fusion of Latin and international music/
dance themes create a fun, dynamic &
effective fitness class. Zumba combines
easy-to-follow dance steps with fast and
slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the
body. Classes are held every Friday at 8
and 9:15 a.m. in the Aerobics Room.
Meditation
This class will help you reduce tension
and stress, feel happier, more relaxed
while improving your health, mental
clarity and vitality. Offered on Thursday
at 5:30 p.m. in the Aerobics Room.

On The Courts
Ladies Clinics – Join us every Wednesday for two ladies
clinics - intermediate players at 4:30 p.m. and beginners at
5:30 p.m. The cost is $10 a person. Even if you have never hit a
ball before or have not played since wooden rackets came out, you
can still get back into tennis.
League Play - The Claymates season will be starting in early
April for both the men and women. If you are interested in
participating, see Keith at the Pro Shop.
Mixed Round Robin - Join us every Saturday at 8 a.m. on
the courts for a tennis mixed round robin. Meet your neighbors
and make new friends while playing this fun game. We are asking
for a $1 donation each week to cover costs.
Men’s Doubles Round Robin – Join us every Wednesday
at 7 p.m. as we invite the men to come out and play in a doubles
round robin. It’s a great way to work on your game. Meet at the
Tennis Pro Shop. No reservations are necessary.
Pizza & Beer Doubles Mixer - Sign up for our Pizza and
Beer Doubles Mixer on the second Friday of each month. This
fun night out costs only $10 per person.
Delray Beach ATP Event – Nearly 40 residents attending the
recent tournament with Tennis Pro Keith Dunlop who was able to
pull some strings and secure the only shaded seats in the stadium!
All had a wonderful time watching fantastic tennis from the Bryan
Brothers and other greats.

hit a snag. A young campaign intern, Molly Stearns, gets Stephen’s
romantic attention. Republicans have a trick up their sleeves,
Stephen may be too trusting, and Molly has a secret. What’s most

War Horse

From Director Steven Spielberg and
starring Jeremy Irvine and Emily
Watson, this is a great movie of hope
and courage. Dartmoor,1914: To
his wife’s dismay farmer Narracott
buys a thoroughbred horse rather
than a plough animal, but when his
teenaged son Albert trains the horse
and calls him Joey, the two becoming
inseparable. When his harvest fails,
the farmer has to sell Joey to the
British cavalry and he is shipped to France where, after a disastrous
offensive he is captured by the Germans and changes hands twice
more before he is found, caught in the barbed wire in No Man’s
Land four years later and freed. He is returned behind British lines
where Albert, now a private, has been temporarily blinded by gas,
but still recognizes his beloved Joey. However, as the Armistice is
declared, Joey is set to be auctioned off. After all they have been
through, will Albert and Joey return home together? Rated PG-13.
Run time is 114 minutes.

I hope you enjoyed the recent Entertainment Showcase presented by William Clare Agency. Thank you for all your comments sheets and for
supporting this event. This season is certainly going fast and can you believe it’s time to plan for our New Year’s Eve Party? If you would like to
volunteer to be on this working committee to help determine the theme, caterer, entertainment and décor, please sign up at the Box Office and we
will let you know when we will have our first meeting. We have 11 openings for this committee.
Thanks to the success of the HOA shows this season, the HOA is able to provide live music by the pool throughout the summer at no charge
to residents! Join us on many Saturdays from 2 to 5 p.m. with your friends and neighbors for a fun afternoon. Our first event will feature live
Jimmy Buffet music on May 19. A schedule of performers and dates is available at the clubhouse. Thank you for your support of our shows.
