Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the CIRSE 2006 Annual Meeting
and Postgraduate Course, the most
advanced scientific and educational event
organized in the field of Cardiovascular and
Interventional Radiology in Europe.
This year's meeting will offer you the possibility
to select from 29 special sessions, 45 workshops,
more than 130 lectures, 3 interactive
case discussions, 160 free papers, 264 scientific
exhibits, 18 satellite symposia and the largest
dedicated technical exhibition, among many
other things.
The programme will enhance one's own theoretical
knowledge on the main diagnostic and
therapeutic procedures and provide the
chance to practice specific parts of
Interventional Radiology that are of remarkable
clinical importance.
Apart from CIRSE's outstanding congress,
Rome, "la città eterna", will offer all participants
its beauties for which it is very well
known worldwide: its monuments, historical
sites going back thousands of years, its
churches, buildings and much more. It will
also offer its residents' welcome to you, the
vital atmosphere of the old city centre and its
typical restaurants.

Welcome Addresses
Welcome to the Eternal City, where Julius
Ceasar, Augustus, Nerva and Trajan walked
in antiquity. CIRSE now follows in their
footsteps by bringing the Annual Meeting
to Rome.
For those of you who enjoy a sense of history,
this is probably one of the most historic cities
in the world, and to walk through the Forum,
the Coliseum or the Capitoline and Palatine
Hills is to walk back in time. I hope you will
find time during your visit in Rome to enjoy
these historic delights, as well as the friendly
atmosphere, beautiful architecture and restaurants
of the new Rome.
There is a very exciting programme at the
CIRSE meeting this year, with numerous basic
and advanced workshops, foundation courses
on biliary intervention and SFA angioplasty, a
mini-symposium on intermittent claudication
running over three days, multiple satellite
symposia, hands-on workshops and exposure
to simulation machines for Interventional
Radiology. Truly, there is something for everyone
at this CIRSE meeting.
The social functions organised by Professor
Passariello and Professor Simonetti will be
spectacular and I thank them for all their
efforts.

promises to be an excellent educational, professional
