Mike & Susan
When Mike pictured his life, he never
thought there would be a time when he
couldn’t provide for his family. His wife,
Susan, drove school buses and he had
always worked in packaging plants. Mike
didn’t particularly enjoy his job, but his
sense of devotion to his wife and four
children motivated him to work hard.
Summertime was hard when Susan
wasn’t working, but they always managed
to save a little during the school
year to help keep them on top of bills.
Then, Mike lost his job due to budget
cuts just weeks after Susan stopped
working for the summer. Two months
went by and Mike still couldn’t find
work. Affording even food became
impossible.
When Mike couldn’t ask family and
friends for help any longer, he turned to
St. Vincent de Paul. For three months,
Mike visited the West End food pantry in
order to give his family food. That was all
the help he needed until he found a new
full-time job and was back on his feet.
