4 How You can Help We are often asked what we need by those who are deeply moved by our work and wish to help. Give Your Time Interested Greater Cincinnati volunteers are invited to join in our ministry of service. Our volunteers are regular people, men and women of all ages, from all walks of life. Give Money Your financial gift can help our volunteers provide emergency assistance with rent, utilities, transportation, food, clothing and furniture to help a neighbor in need get through a rough time. Almost all our funding comes from gifts made by concerned people like you. To volunteer, call 513-562-8841 x211. Donate Goods Your tax-deductible donation of clean, usable furniture, clothing and household items can make an enormous difference in the life of someone in need. Organize a Food Drive Holding a food drive is a fun and easy team-building activity. Food drives also provide critically needed nonperishable food for our food pantries. Food donations are appreciated at any time of year. Donate Your Used Vehicle One hundred percent of proceeds from our vehicle donation program are used to help local people in need. To make a financial or planned gift, call 513-562-8841 x225. To donate your gently used clothing, furniture, household items or vehicle, call 513-421-CARE (2279).
Dear Friends, Last year was filled with uncertainty, setbacks and misfortunes for local families. Gas prices spiked, the cost of food soared and a major windstorm blew through Cincinnati. Then the economic crisis hit and our city’s suffering grew. We saw the effects first hand as the number of calls for help escalated at an alarming rate. At times, we were not sure how we could respond to so much need. Among the extreme circumstances — the layoffs, home repairs and general cost of living increases — there were also illnesses, injuries and unexpected expenses that set many families back financially. Those living paycheck to paycheck, teetering on the edge of poverty, suddenly found themselves facing eviction. Working class families found themselves wondering where their next meal would come from. Neighbors already struggling in poverty now found themselves sleeping in shelters. But through the despair, hope shone through. In 2008, St. Vincent de Paul volunteers and donors touched the lives of more than 81,000 people. Often a little help at the right moment was all that was needed to get someone back on their feet. Individuals, the elderly, parents and children were clothed, fed and given shelter. Families needing a hand up were given practical support, a prayer, and the hope to press on.
