as industrial development and population growth have continued to drive up the demand for electricity, TransGrid has continued to demonstrate the effectiveness of its forward planning. TransGrid does this by assessing the ability of the network to meet projected load forecasts and plans to satisfy these emerging needs. our planning is carried out over both a short time frame, from one to five years, and also over a longer term period, from five to 20 years. shorter term planning supports commitments to network developments with relatively short lead times. longer term planning considers options for future major developments. planning processes over both timeframes ensures economically efficient development of the network. TransGrid prepares an annual planning report each year. The annual planning report provides information to market participants and interested parties on nsW energy demand projections; the nature and location of emerging constraints in the nsW network; information on completed, committed and planned augmentations; and proposed network developments over the next five years. This information allows the market to identify potential demand management solutions and allows TransGrid to develop and implement appropriate and timely network solutions. TransGrid also prepares a five year network Management plan which describes the model we use to manage and develop its assets and the asset management strategies for network enhancement and maintenance. in response to the projected high level of electricity load growth, TransGrid’s planning has identified the need for future augmentation of the nsW transmission network. The 2009 to 2014 regulatory period is characterised by six major projects which collectively account for over 50 percent of the total expenditure of the expected $2.4 billion capital expenditure program.
