as a “Worker’s compensation self insurer”.
TransGrid has performed well in regard to
worker’s compensation costs which have
reduced by 25 percent from the previous
year, and 46 percent since 2005/06. This
figure reflects the 11 percent reduction
in the number of worker’s compensation
claims over the 2008/09 year.
TransGrid’s occupational Health and
safety Management system is certified
to australian standard as/nZs 4801.
TransGrid conducts health and safety
system audits throughout the year and any
non-conformance identified by these audits
is actioned and its completion tracked.
TransGrid’s occupational Health and safety
Management system is overseen by the
executive occupational Health and safety
committee which meets quarterly. This
committee is chaired by the Managing
director and includes the General Manager
or a senior management representative.
TransGrid implements an annual corporate
Health and safety plan, which is based
on the health and safety risks and key
initiatives. each business unit develops its
own customised plan which addresses the
business specific health and safety risks,
based on the corporate Health and safety
plan objectives.
over the year, TransGrid has been focusing
on a number of health and safety initiatives,
all designed to reduce workplace risks and
improve the health of our employees and
contractors. We have been continuing to
implement TransGrid’s fit for Work programme
for our line workers to help improve fitness with
a focus on diet, core strength and flexibility.
This programme has been embraced by all
those employees involved.

safety day competition a Winner
over 100 people from 21 teams across TransGrid
competed in first aid, fire fighting and risk assessment
events at TransGrid’s annual safety day in september.
The safety day was larger than ever, with events in vital emergency response and risk
assessment disciplines, as well as displays of TransGrid’s safety equipment and initiatives.
The nsW fire brigade was on hand to judge teams as they battled a controlled fire.
representatives from Workcover were also present as actors simulated various injuries,
creating confronting challenges for competitors.
TransGrid’s safety day helps to validate our safety principle of “no shortcuts When it
comes To safety”. The day helps to hone our safety skills which positively influences
a sustained safety culture in all our workplaces. it also provides TransGrid’s board,
executive and senior leaders with the opportunity to reinforce to our people their personal
commitment to employees’ safety.
We congratulate our yass team who were the standout winners of the safety shield.
during 2008/09, TransGrid has concentrated on improving contractor management systems
and processes. a new auditing program for our major construction projects was introduced
during the year, raising the bar on the health and safety performance of our contractors.

with information on relevant health and safety topics and promote wellbeing across the
