Includes a photocopy <strong>of</strong> a statement <strong>by</strong> J.Z.Moyo, National<br />

Treasurer <strong>of</strong> ZAPU, expressing dissatisfaction with <strong>the</strong> state <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

organisation's army and a reply <strong>by</strong> J.R.D.Chikerema, acting<br />

President <strong>of</strong> ZAPU (Feb 1970), a photocopy <strong>of</strong> a statement signed<br />

<strong>by</strong> Moyo et al in response to <strong>the</strong> attempt <strong>by</strong> Chikerema to seize<br />

control <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> organisation (21 Mar 1970), a declaration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Zimbabwe People's Revolutionary Council (ZPRC) (04 Jan 1975), a<br />

confidential circular which outlines <strong>the</strong> organisation's attitude to <strong>the</strong><br />

release <strong>of</strong> imprisoned leaders, <strong>the</strong> African National Council and a<br />

proposed constitutional conference, and two copies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Zimbabwe<br />

Review.<br />

117/2/19/2 Zimbabwe People's Army (ZIPA) 1976-1977<br />

Includes two printed transcripts <strong>of</strong> interviews with Dzinashe<br />

Machingura, Deputy Political Commissar <strong>of</strong> ZIPA, one <strong>of</strong> which is<br />

incomplete. The first was carried out <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mozambique<br />

Information Agency. Subjects covered include <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong> ZIPA,<br />

political objectives and <strong>the</strong> future <strong>of</strong> Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. Also<br />

includes a copy <strong>of</strong> a letter addressed to <strong>the</strong> Liberation Committee <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Organisation <strong>of</strong> African Unity from members <strong>of</strong> ZIPA<br />

requesting action against members <strong>of</strong> ZANU over <strong>the</strong> arrest <strong>of</strong> ZIPA<br />

Commanders.<br />

Includes an undated newsletter headed 'The Price <strong>of</strong> Detente', subtitled:<br />

'Kaunda prepares to execute more ZANU freedom fighters for<br />

Smith' and including reports on political prisoners held in Zambia, a<br />

typescript statement from <strong>the</strong> 'militants' <strong>of</strong> ZANU addressed to <strong>the</strong><br />

High Command, criticising sections <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> party (Feb 1978), and<br />

four issues <strong>of</strong> Zimbabwe News.<br />

Two copies <strong>of</strong> a statement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ZPF's attitude to British proposals<br />

for a settlement in Rhodesia, each with different handwritten notes,<br />

probably <strong>by</strong> <strong>First</strong>. Signed <strong>by</strong> Joshua Nkomo and Robert Mugabe.<br />
