Deposited <strong>by</strong> Rosalynde Ainslie [married name de Lanerolle] in <strong>the</strong> summer <strong>of</strong> 1987.<br />

Scope and content<br />

Predominantly research <strong>material</strong> accumulated <strong>by</strong> <strong>First</strong> during her pr<strong>of</strong>essional career<br />

and covering a wide range <strong>of</strong> African and political topics. However also included are<br />

series <strong>of</strong> personal correspondence, extracts from newspapers and speech notes.<br />

System <strong>of</strong> arrangement<br />

In accordance with <strong>the</strong> wishes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Ruth</strong> <strong>First</strong> <strong>Memorial</strong> Trust, <strong>the</strong>se papers have<br />

been <strong>catalogue</strong>d separately from <strong>the</strong> remainder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> collection, in order to<br />

commemorate <strong>the</strong> life and work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Rosalynde Ainslie, a former Trustee. The<br />

majority <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>material</strong> is arranged according to <strong>First</strong>'s different research interests.<br />

Physical description<br />

Mostly paper including newspaper cuttings and volumes. Also includes photographs.<br />

Finding aids<br />

A basic list was drawn up in 1997 <strong>by</strong> David Ward <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ICS.<br />
