This documentary tells the story of the Lebanese war through the memories of
those living in the country. Architect Mona Hallak pieces together the lives of
the residents of the Barakat building, a 1920's apartment block in downtown
Beirut. Now little more than a ruin due to the ravages of war, she is trying to
restore the house to its former elegance.
George W. Bush has obtained a Palestine Israeli ceasefire while he attempts to
build a worldwide coalition agaist terrorism. Can it last? Program looks mainly
at the Palistine suicide bombers, and their motivation, also at the
organizations, Islamic Jihad and Hamas. Also shows the Israeli assassination
policy. Arab collaborators identify key leaders, and Israelis take "pinpoint
preventative action". An example shows rockets fired at a building from two
American made helicopters; supposedly an attack against terrorism, but also
killing children.
PRIME SUSPECT [VIDEORECORDING].
Off-air recording of the ABC program broadcast 17/09/2001.
Profiles Osama bin Laden, Saudi regenade, and suspected mastermind behind the
terror attack on New York and Washington of September 11, 2001. Considers what
may be his motives. Born into a wealthy family, he became a freedom fighter in
Afghanistan against the Soviet Union. In 1991 he was enraged by American forces
occupation of his country during the Gulf War; this together with American
support for Israel against the Palestinians, has led him to hate the United
States. He established a revolutionary organization, with camps where volunteers
are trained to use explosives and weapons, and taught to organize in secret cell
like structures almost impossible for spy agencies to penetrate. Uses
investigative material collated from the BBC, the United States and the ABC's
own resources.
