It’s party season and
your chance to shine, says

December is the height of the party
season, whether it’s an office event, a gettogether
with friends or a smart social
occasion. With all of us having less to spend on
our party outfits this year, we need to get it right.
What are the trends and colours that are a must
for the belle of the ball?
Firstly, colour. Yes, black is here to stay, but
make sure it really suits your skin tone. For some
it will simply drain colour from the face.
There are some fabulous colours in the shops
this season and party dresses are no exception. If
you’re feeling bold, go for reds, orange, yellow
and vivid pink; greys and purples give a
sophisticated look while being more flattering
than black. Fabrics should be luxurious. Rich
hues and sumptuous materials will make you
look and feel a million dollars, while lace, ruffles,
drapes and beads will add the texture that’s part
of this season’s look.
As ever, accessories will make or break your
outfit. This year, dress up a simple
outfit with big, bold jewellery to
make you stand out from the
crowd. Large rings, cuff bracelets
and statement necklaces in
metals, crystals, leather or
gemstones should do the
job. Think sparkles! Shoes
for parties should have killer
heels and be colourful, shiny,
sparkly or embellished. Go for
patent, satin, metallic, or add
bows, lace or sequins.
For an on-trend party bag
choose a clutch. They don’t
need to be large – just big
enough for a card and a lipstick.
However, they must be as much
of a statement as the jewellery.
Look for high-shine finishes in patent, sequins,
beads or satin and, again, look for bold colours.
It isn’t necessary to match the bags, shoes and
dress but do choose colours that work together:
you want to feel as though you’re over the
rainbow, not part of it. V
