Over the last decade, the issue <strong>of</strong> high potential development has received increasing attention. <strong>The</strong><br />

debate has focused on the operationalizing <strong>of</strong> high potential identification and development, and the<br />

impact <strong>of</strong> future organizational forms and structures which affect managerial requirements.<br />

<strong>The</strong> delivery <strong>of</strong> intensely structured, controlled, and centralized high potential development processes<br />

are presenting real challenges for organizations. From a supply perspective, dual CAREERS are<br />

limiting mobility, "one <strong>of</strong>f' early identification can fail to build on the talents <strong>of</strong> late developers and<br />

women who have taken a CAREER BREAK (see WOMEN MANAGERS). Perhaps most importantly,<br />

the basis <strong>of</strong> the PSYCHOLOGICAL CONTRACT is under threat as even the most established<br />

organizations simultaneously delayer and recruit senior executives from the external labor market. As a<br />
